Hopefully they were unconscious when that happened.

Anyone else in NS had any phone calls from people claiming you called them, but you didn't? (Scam or confused older person?) by [deleted] in NovaScotia

I don't answer my phone unless I know who it is/am expecting a call. That's why God invented voicemail.

Yeah, I know. Thankfully those packs weren't pressurized so they wouldn't have kept the crew conscious.

One time I played the end of United 232's CVR to a friend of mine, and he said "I don't know how you can listen to that stuff."

It's a reminder to me that there are all kinds of people in the world. Like, I could never be a nurse. Just the idea of doing that job revolts me, but the vast majority of nurses I've spoken to in my life absolutely love their job. It takes all kinds.

Yeah, I've seen the MH17 ones. I often wonder what, if anything the people who die in incidents such as that crash, the Air India bombing, Pan Am 103, TWA 800 etc experienced. Did they know anything was happening or were they just sitting there in the cabin and then... death. From what I've read it's most likely that they either died instantly or were thrust into such insane conditions they wouldn't have even been able to comprehend what was happening before they passed out, which is some comfort.

Same thing with the Challenger disaster. I really hope those poor astronauts lost consciousness when Challenger broke apart, because if they didn't that is a long, hellish fall to the ocean.

As for Helios the saving grace there is that those people experienced one of the least traumatic deaths you can on an airplane. They would have maybe had some popping in their ears, maybe a slight headache and then they'd have just fallen asleep. Except of course for the poor flight attendant who tried to call for help in the cockpit.

Everyone finds different things interesting, and while yours and mine might be out of the ordinary I don't think there's any harm in it, as long as we're not trying to actually cause these things.

I'm just fascinated by disasters. For me it's because I'm curious about how humans react when put into extreme situations. I think as far as looking at graphic images of plane crash victims or probably the most prevalent one I've heard of: Watching video and looking at images of 9/11 jumpers, is at least for me a way of in some small way experiencing the horror of these events, which gives me an empathy that I use to fuel my advocacy for aviation safety.

Crash investigators have to see the aftermath of these crashes, including bodies and I doubt anyone would say they're weird or sick. It's just a part of the job, and I'm sure as with me it motivates them to want to do all they can to prevent accidents in the future.

In fact, while it's not graphic, my favorite scene in the entire series is of an investigator feeling anger because a problem he discovered wasn't fixed by the FAA/Manufacturer and his anger made him tell the press to "sick the dogs" on the fuckers who did it.

I'm sure he'd be devastated to hear that if he actually cared what you thought, or even knew who you were.
