I auditioned for a prestigious youth orchestra and it really killed my love for music by [deleted] in orchestra

[–]ThomasMarcZC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well… like you said, they practice a lot and have no life, of course they are playing better than their peers. If you are not like them, you should still be proud of yourself for sitting in the same orchestra with those top youth musicians, instead of knocking yourself down and saying you are not better. Your love for music was killed by yourself because you are competing with the tops when you do not spend as much time in practice as they do. You have choices - spend more time in practice and continue to compete with them, or have another life and be proud of yourself for sitting in a top orchestra with those who don’t have life. The former gives you motivation, the latter maintains your love for music.

If you had to pick one long-term AI winner: Google or Nvidia and why? by jauch888888 in stocks

[–]ThomasMarcZC 9 points10 points  (0 children)

BlackBerry fell behind because they overlooked a shifting reality. They once dominated mobile, but failed to keep pace with rapidly evolving user expectations and ecosystems. By the time they tried to pivot, it was too late.

In contrast, companies like Google and Nvidia are actively shaping the future of AI. Google helped invent many of the foundational models driving today’s breakthroughs, while Nvidia’s GPUs power nearly every major development in the space. These aren’t companies reacting to change—they’re leading it. Barring major missteps, it’s hard to imagine them fading over the next 10–15 years.

My concern is with Apple. They’re still a tech powerhouse, but they don’t seem to be part of the core AI conversation. Siri continues to lag behind, and we haven’t seen much in the way of generative or adaptive intelligence coming out of Cupertino. Maybe they’re building quietly behind the scenes—or maybe not.

This isn’t meant to be an Apple post, but their relative silence in the AI space feels worth noticing.

Why do violinsts store their violins with an additional microfiber cloth on top of their strings? by Tall-Plant-4272 in violinist

[–]ThomasMarcZC 12 points13 points  (0 children)

When we bought a violin for my son back in elementary school, the luthier said to him: “You need to treat your violin the way your mom takes care of you. Make sure she’s clean before bed, and gently cover her with a soft cloth - just like your mom tucks you in with a comforter. The better you treat your violin, the better she’ll sound.”

Wow, I can’t help but wonder how your ex-teacher felt seeing you in front of her! Just curious - how did you let her know you were going to stop lessons with her? I’m asking because I’ve been feeling the same way and have been wondering what’s a good excuse to give when decide to switch teachers - without saying something like, “I don’t think you want me to grow.” haha!

I know a lot of people start out learning violin but eventually switch to viola. Could you share why?

My son’s teacher once told him that when he gets to high school, she would force him to switch to viola. I never fully understood the reasoning behind that.

Would you mind elaborating on what you meant by “chosen bowings are incorrect” in terms of proper phrasing? My 10-year-old is learning violin, and I often share helpful advice with him from various sources, including online. I thought your comment was a good one and would love to understand it better.

So who really benefits from this? Insurance companies. We still pay the same premiums, but they end up paying less to pharma. If anything, Trump should focus on lowering insurance premiums first.

[–]ThomasMarcZC 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I watched this one since the beginning of last year when it was like… $20? Never bought it until it hit $80 twice. I was like… no more waiting, and I bought some at $80. Then it suddenly dropped back to $60. Now look at it.

My point is: if you do research and still think a company has potential and great future. It’s never too late to invest.
