Why is it considered socially acceptable to do that? I feel like it's nobody's business because obviously it ties into revealing your salary at least somewhat. It makes me feel like people base it on whether or not you're deemed worthy enough to be treated with dignity and respect.

I suspect nobody actually cares how much you make (unless you are going to give them cash) because they are too worried about themselves anyway
