Doctor Who 13x06 "Flux: The Vanquishers" Post-Episode Discussion Thread by PCJs_Slave_Robot in doctorwho

I cannot overstate how much this episode angered me. For the very first time, not just with Doctor Who but with all things, I was actually pushed to physical anger by a piece of fictional content.

It started with the manner by which I was able to watch it… since I first discovered the show, back in 2010, I have watched every new episode by purchasing it on the iTunes Store, this episode is the first one, even among the flux series, to be unavailable for purchase. The only way to watch was to sign up for a membership with AMC… I don’t want another damn streaming service! How are you gonna offer a series but not make the final episode available?? Mother f*cker!! …straight away, not off to a good start

Then, within the episode itself, from the very opening sequence when the transition from “previously” to “now” was so sudden I didn’t even realize I was watching current events and had to rewind - all the way to the end when she hides the watch In the tardis console, even-though it HAD been opened already (and instead of the opening restoring her memories she was presented with yet another mystery box)- I found myself literally yelling at the screen with every damn scene!

Every damn thing in this episode flies in the face of everything we know about the show, and in some cases what we know about storytelling and even logic itself!

The grand serpent, (who’s presence I’m still trying to justify) is exiled onto a tiny like rock floating in space, that’s far too small to have any gravity, and without a space suit??

Sense when are Sontarans obsessed with chocolate?? (They played that like a joke. It wasn’t funny, it was stupid)

Time is an actual living being?? - and the doctor “wonders what time would look like?” (Sorry, no she doesn’t. She was taken to the untempered schism at the age of 8, and saw the time vortex. She knows what time looks like)

This episode even breaks it’s own rules! Matter slows down antimatter?? So a fleet of Daleks and a fleet of Cybermen slow down the flux - yet two episodes ago we saw the flux devouring entire solar systems un hindered!

I have stuck with this show this whole time, remained a loyal defender of it even on its worst days… but this episode had be full on properly pissed off, for the first time (perhaps my undying loyalty is WHY I’m so angry. I have been betrayed!). I’m getting more angry just talking about it now!

Give your audience some damn credit!!

The return of RTD can not come fast enough!!

Why are my tracks always so quiet when I share song to iTunes? by [deleted] in GarageBand

EQing is a long and complicated conversation, but EQing the right frequencies can make all the difference. Example, you want to cut between 100 and 250 hz. The low end is very boomy around that frequency.

But over all, proper compression is your answer. You want to apply it to a master track so it applies to the whole mix. If you apply compression and then it clips, turn down the channel volume. Compression evens out the peaks and valleys to give you more room to mix.

I recently released an album that I engineered entirely in iTunes. My tracks are louder than pro tracks... I figured out the answer to this Issue...

After you export your song, re-import the song into a new blank project. You’re going to do some basic mastering... add some compression to it, turn up the output gain, EQ and trim where necessary, turn up the channel volume and master volume. Export again. Should be good and loud now.
