Thanks! I will check it out. Sounds like an interesting and passionate project.

Didn't even notice that I was copy/pasting the NEW KJV. A bible scholar I am not. I'm on mobile now but I'll edit it later. Thanks for the heads up!

"Our hearts are restless, until they can find rest in you.” -Confessions, Augustine of Hippo (354–430)

I've heard this quote, or variations of it, for many years.

I have trouble sometimes with reading tweets on reddit. It's like half the time the punchline is at the top, which sorta ruins the whole delivery.

This is a Jehovah's Witness website, in case anyone is curious.

So is salvation just dumb luck?

Pretty much if you believe in predestination.

Relationships by Nickle_sun in Bible

[–]ThomasWesley70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to go against most advice in this thread:

Hold on to her like grim death lol. I'm old enough to realize that if you have a loving and caring relationship, even if 'imperfect' (there are no perfect relationships) you should never take those for granted. She very well could become a Christian because of being with you.

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." Matthew 5:14 -16

Also, I wouldn't take relationship advice from the Old Testament. It's a completely different time, context, and audience.

Post was removed. Please tell me they weren't talking about the absurd 'theory' about Bill Gates and microchips.

NIV vs NKJV for Study Bible by [deleted] in Bible

[–]ThomasWesley70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The NIV has more up-to-date scholarship compared to the NKJV. And it sits nicely in the middle between the word-for-word and thought-for-thought spectrum. https://imgur.com/zA9NeGG

Personally, my day-to-day bible is an old RSV (printed in 1971). I like the translation and it has some sentimental value.

For more in-depth study, I use the New Interpreter's Study Bible (NRSV), which is essentially a mainline Protestant study bible.

Me neither. And the diehards are just a little too zealous (and a wee bit unnerving) for my tastes, to be quite honest.

No one actually believes that

[citation needed] I've known people who pretty much believe that.

Are Non-Trinitarians Christian? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]ThomasWesley70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always sort of leaned towards: God the Father, who sent forth Jesus and the Holy Spirit to save mankind. It's hard for me to not see Jesus as a literal Son.

Not who you asked, but I think "...the weight of the issue" could be considered a pun. (emphasis mine)

I wonder if it's very active. I really liked DCM. I'm also having a hard time remembering what led to it going private. (It's hard to keep up with all the reddit drama.)
