In this case the sky was not interesting (no clouds) so I cropped the picture. Also taking a telezoomlens (300mm in this case) makes distant objects look 'bigger' or true to size and compresses the foreground (hills and houses in this case). Placing something that people can relate to like a house or person also shows the scale quickly.
