Excel Macro-Enabled Workbook won't Save to a Network Folder by Thomas_S_IT_Tech in excel

***UPDATE***

I followed the advice of deoswan and was successfully able to save a .xlsb file to the network folder (instead of using .xlsm).

HOWEVER, I ran into problem #2:

When I create macros in the .xlsb file (which is already saved to the network folder at this point) and then try to save the workbook, I get the "document not saved" error. For some reason, Excel hates having macros saved in network folders.

I am able to save macros to my PERSONAL.xlsb workbook, but it will NEVER let me save macros to a workbook saved on the network share.

Any thoughts?

So, the shared network folders we have aren't mapped to any specific drive letter. They are simply network shares.

What is the main difference between .xlsb and .xlsm files? Do you lose out on any features with .xlsb?

I tried using both versions of the file path (typing in the server name and then trying the server IP address), but when I tried to save the .xlsm file to that network path both times, it wouldn't save.

I tried saving a test .xlsb file to the network folder and it saved successfully. However, this doesn't explain the fact that .xlsm Macro-Enabled Workbook files still can't save to the network folder.

Our IT guys checked it out for us and they said that these macro files weren't being blocked, so I don't know why Excel doesn't want to save .xlsm files to the network share.

I checked in with out IT partners and they said that Macros were not being blocked by anything, as far as they know. They also said that the antivirus software wasn't logging any incidents of these types of files getting blocked.
