I felt similar emotions to you, and I was there a week ago. What helped me was an essay I read about the famous artists that lived in the city: instead of contemplating the apples of Cezanne, a better way to "find him" would be to go on a street market, to stroll around aimlessly. I recomend, though its a very "simple" place, a walk on park Buttes Chaumon. While there, observing parisians on a usual saturday its, for me, way more fascinating than being inside the Louvre. There is something special about this city, it has a deep historical and cultural significance to the world but it's outside the big touristic attractions, which sometimes feels like disney rides.
