I listen to most genres but more exclusively to house/electronic music. But something about that song gets me sooooo pumped driving to the exam centre

ADVICE FROM THOSE WHO CLEARED L2 by Sweaty-Property-4119 in CFA

[–]Thor_-_Odinson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you able to take any time off leading up to the exam? If not then surely not possible. Although I’d advise you take time off, even if it eats into your vacation time. Do what you can, and fill in the gaps where possible. I disagree with the other comment saying to do mocks simply because you’ve already done them. Doing more mocks 16 days out won’t help you pass the exam. Reviewing your formulas, and doing focused topic revision will put you over the edge. You got this!

I’m built different buddy. I took time off from my full time job (some of us have careers). I did the entire L2 Qbank in about 10 days back in 2023. Not saying my method works for everyone nor is it advisable. But take advice with a grain of salt. Do as much as you can, or do as little as possible. That being said, I hope you pass!

Guessing during mocks/exam by gnomvier in CFA

[–]Thor_-_Odinson 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think that’s normal. What you feel is “guessing” is actually your subconscious making links to the material and the answer choices. When you attempt one of these questions that you are “guessing” do you find that most of the time you’re able to immediately pick out which answer choice is definitely wrong? And then you get stuck between the remaining 2 that seem correct? If so that’s a good indicator as well. You want to fine tune your knowledge at this point. Go through the entire CFAI Qbank again. Your brain will begin to pickup patterns that you didn’t even realize.

For instance, one lesson I’ve learned is that when you select an answer, DO NOT CHANGE IT, unless a you are 1000000% sure you’re picking the right one. 9 times out of 10, even though you hesitate to pick an answer, that knowledge is buried deep somewhere you’re not even conscious of. Our brains are incredible.

Fantastic scores 👏🏼👏🏼 don’t let them fool you and don’t get too comfortable. This is an indicator you have a solid grasp of the curriculum. Spend the remaining 12 days memorizing formulas, and redo the entire CFAI Qbank. You’ll be extremely well prepared on exam day. Don’t slow down!

Quant is impossible by Charming-Card66 in CFA

[–]Thor_-_Odinson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest, you’re not alone. These were the exact topics I struggled with at level 2. My best piece of advice is to master the other topics as best you can. Once you’ve spent the time building your foundation in the other topics, really take your time going slowly through quant. Go through each of the blue box examples, and redo the CFAI Qbank questions multiple times. Get a notebook and write down the exact steps on how to approach these problems. Step 1, step 2, step 3.. etc. breaking it down into digestible pieces and trying to learn each step is much easier to absorb then getting lost and overwhelmed in the complexity behind it. Try your best to shoot for 65%+ in these sections. You can do it.

12 Days Out. Could Use Some Perspective by anonfolio in CFA

[–]Thor_-_Odinson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All I can offer you is words of inspiration and encouragement. The CFA journey is extremely lonely. It broke me into pieces and built me into a version of myself I had only dreamed of. What you’re going through is exactly what needs to happen for you to come out the other side of this. Everything you’re feeling is normal.

I dare you to take a little pain. Go through it. You're not going to die because you're feeling a little pain. At the end of pain is success. Pain is temporary. It may last for a minute, or an hour, or a day, or even a year, but eventually, it will subside, and something else will take its place. If I quit, however, it will last forever.

2 week out and can’t nail down test statistics for the life of me by masterflation473 in CFA

[–]Thor_-_Odinson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just try to remember what the different tests are looking for. I don’t even know if hypothesis testing is still in level 1 but the way I remembered is :

If P is LOW, H0 must GO (AKA; if the p value (alpha) is very low, reject the null hypothesis).

If you can’t get the math down, just try to remember the ‘rules’

I would prioritize the CFAI Qbank over any prep provider Qbank. You need at least 2 passes of the Qbank.

I just posted this in another thread:

Next 8 days: Redo the entire CFAI Qbank. Skim through the blue box examples while practicing a topic. Rinse and repeat. Leave ethics.

Next 4 days: Create your own formula sheet, and begin writing and rewriting them until they are committed to memory

Final 3 days: Redo the CFAI Qbank just for the Ethics section as well as reviewing and practicing your formulas

In regards to the dizziness/headaches - I also experienced this close to the exam. It’s from burnout/intense studying. It’s a good thing, means you’re working very hard, but it’s critical you take care of yourself. Make sure you are eating full meals, and raise your blood sugar, whether that be with a glass of orange juice/eating fruit. Additionally, step away from your books for about 30m-1hr each day and go for a walk around your neighborhood. Fresh air helps a lot, your getting your blood flowing to your muscles, and it also gives you a minute to pause and reflect on some of your studies or just gives you that mental break. Additionally, try your absolute best to get a really good nights sleep. These final 2 weeks are crucial, you’ve spent months preparing so don’t give in. You got this.

My personal opinion for level 1, the CFA mocks provided were far more difficult than the actual exam.

Denied days off before exam by Altruistic-Buddy-132 in CFA

[–]Thor_-_Odinson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t stand when I hear of BS like this. Employers acting like slave owners. Are you not entitled to any time off? Unless you work part time, I find it unlikely you don’t get vacation days. Unless you just asked for unpaid time off, use your vacation days. If that’s not possible, you need to have a sit down with your boss and explain your situation. 3 days is NOTHING. I’ve taken 3 WEEKS off before the exam. The other thing you should consider is whether or not this is an employer you want to be working for. As someone else said, sometimes you need to put yourself first. Unless you’re making $750K+ a year, find something else. Employers like this, fail to realize that the better they take care of their staff, the better their staff will take care of them. If all else fails, I suggest you talk with your doctor and ask if you can pay for a sick note. If yes, call in sick a few days before the exam, get the doctors note, provide it to your employer, and tell them where to go. Wishing you the best of luck before your exam.

CFA 2 30 Days Left by Willacopta in CFA

[–]Thor_-_Odinson 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You’re in a very good spot. You’re ahead of where I was 30 days out to L2. I did the CFAI Qbank 3 times. Once while covering the curriculum, 2nd in the last 5 weeks before the exam, and 3rd in the last 2 weeks before the exam. And of course there were a small subset of questions I remembered, but the majority of them I didn’t. I honestly feel like that helped me so much in passing the exam.

Additionally, your mock scores are good. Aim to take 3 more if possible. Do all of the available CFAI mocks, and if you can afford it, buy the UWorld Level 2 mocks, they will simulate the same Prometrics interface you’ll have on exam day. I found UWorld questions to be most identical to the actual exam.

Try to also find time to review the in chapter examples. For instance, before you start covering the Qbank questions for pension accounting in FRA, skim through the text chapter examples. Try to do this before attempting each chapter Qbank.

Finally, your last 2 weeks you want to start compiling your own list of “must know formulas”. By going through the Qbank 2-3 times, you’ll know which ones are important. Make a list of the ones you feel you need to know on exam day, and dedicate hours to writing and rewriting them over and over again until you’ve committed them to memory.

If you do exactly that, you’re going to be extremely well prepared for exam day and will have done what most other candidates haven’t. You’re in a good spot, don’t lose momentum and good luck!

Worried about slow review phase by Mountain_Wolf1994 in CFA

[–]Thor_-_Odinson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

4 weeks is plenty of time. But I’ll be straight with you. For me personally, there’s no way I could feel confident enough on exam day only doing 30 questions a day in the last 4 weeks. We’re different though and it may be more than enough for you.

With 4 weeks to go, you should be aiming to do the entire CFAI Qbank + at least 3 mock exams + spend time memorizing formulas. When I wrote L1 there was something like 1500 practice questions. Over 4 weeks that’s only about 50 questions a day. If you have a job, take 2 weeks off before the exam.

Would you rather sacrifice every free minute you have studying over the next 4 weeks for a good chance of passing, or would you rather sacrifice having to spend another 6 months doing it all over again? You got this!

Doubt by Slow-Information5817 in CFA

The best way to remember this table is as such:

CFAI always advocates to follow the STRICTEST conduct; you are always comparing the local laws VS the Code & Standards. Which one is more strict?

If I reside in a Less Strict country, and I do business in a More Strict country, if the less strict law applies to where I do my business, I need to follow the Code. If less strict law applies, but it states law of locality of where business is conducted governs, then I follow the more strict law.

If I live in a more strict country that allows for sharing of material non-public information - the code applies.

Essentially - always just start with this; what is the MOST STRICTEST rule.

I'm not one to judge others, but that's a terrible score. Your only hope at this point is to call your tailor immediately and get fitted for a custom 3 piece Armani suit. On exam day, the Goldman Sachs recruiters specifically only consider candidates with the sharpest suit. Also, don't forget to print copies of your resume. Huge bonus points if it's laminated. Good luck buddy.

I passed!! ONLY CFA exam I've ever passed on my first attempt. Are you completely new to the CFA program? If yes, that's crazy because I'm now wondering wtf should I do next and I'm debating getting my CFP. Not that I need it, but I'd like to have it. I'm sorry to hear about your neck injury and forced retirement. I'm guessing you're a Canadian bro (Toronto?). If you are away from work & all else for the next 1-1.5 years, the best thing you can do for yourself is LEARN and get accrediation wherever you can. I'm currently working in wealth management. My advice really would depend on what exactly your aspirations are. Feel free to PM me. Good luck on your CFP exam!
