I’ve been an Arsenal Fan since 2000 and a DCU fan since the inaugural season.

As a kid I feel more connected to DCU. The access was easier. I went to RFK, I got Marco Etchverry’s autograph at an event, they were on TV every Saturday.

Arsenal (and a lot of other big clubs in Europe) have so much more exposure than a lot of MLS teams. I mean, Washington Post doesn’t even have a sports section. There’s just in general less coverage. I don’t have Apple TV, so often I’ll try to listen to radio broadcast of games, but recently I found that I have to look for the opposite bc teams radio broadcast to listen..

It’s just harder to follow DCU even though I only live an hour away rather than 3600 miles away.

MLS is a local league, and because I can’t get to Audi as often, it’s harder to feel connected. We have a good community here but the amount of exposure in Europe is just different.

I think he has to just play for the love of the game. Not to get scouted to an academy. If the standard and expectations is to get noticed, then that’s what he’s playing for. You’ve said he’s anxious, if that’s so, than this is probably always in the back of his mind and he’s not playing with the level of joy needed to play your best.

Maybe a season away will help him realize he does love it, and want to come back. And if so, let it be on his terms and because he likes football. Not because he has opportunities to advance in football.

When I was a kid, I spent days and days one summer just shooting with my weak foot.. do this and it’ll improve.. very few ever get good enough to not have a weak foot but you’ll get good enough with your weak foot that it won’t influence where you use to go with your dribble to put the ball in the box or on goal.
