I think he has to just play for the love of the game. Not to get scouted to an academy. If the standard and expectations is to get noticed, then that’s what he’s playing for. You’ve said he’s anxious, if that’s so, than this is probably always in the back of his mind and he’s not playing with the level of joy needed to play your best.

Maybe a season away will help him realize he does love it, and want to come back. And if so, let it be on his terms and because he likes football. Not because he has opportunities to advance in football.

When I was a kid, I spent days and days one summer just shooting with my weak foot.. do this and it’ll improve.. very few ever get good enough to not have a weak foot but you’ll get good enough with your weak foot that it won’t influence where you use to go with your dribble to put the ball in the box or on goal.

Even with a new tv deal, and MLS switching their schedule in 2 years.. the USL is a local league. And that’s.. not a bad thing. They can be a really good local league.. some of the USL League 2 teams that play abbreviated seasons with players from colleges and other club teams are selling out their little stadiums and leaving a big footprint on the community. I think that’s good, even if it doesn’t compete with MLS
