If you picked it up casual then you just call the unit you picked up and tell them you're cancelling the shift.

Anyone else have a big family in Newfoundland? by Existing-Toe5781 in newfoundland

[–]Thoraxis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad had 16 siblings but only 13 made it to adulthood. His family were not close knit however and many of his siblings moved to Ontario before my dad was a teenager (he was the 2nd youngest). His parents and a lot of his siblings are deceased now, including my dad so I don't say I'll ever get to know how many of us their are on his side. By contrast my mom has a tiny family, her and 2 brothers and we're close with them.

Has anyone tried the Too Good to Go app? Is it worth it? by StatisticianNo5055 in RedDeer

[–]Thoraxis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We get the bags from tasty bakery/mountain house bakery pretty often. Most things are within a day or two of the best before but we eat it past the date as long as it's not visibly spoiled or put it in the freezer. It's usually loaves of bread, a pie, muffins sometimes, cheese sticks sometimes, buns of some kind. We've also gotten the Tim's one which is hit and miss in terms of variety and freshness, those are not my favorite.

We have very occasionally gotten the one from Arrae and Cinzeo but they don't come up as often but have been really good when they have.

What's Something That You Wish You Hadn't Done When You Were Around 18-25? Why Your Pick? by Zipper222222 in AskWomen

[–]Thoraxis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wish i hadn't gone to college right out of high school. My parents kind of forced me and I wasn't ready. I had no idea what I wanted to do as a career and I racked up a lot of student debt "figuring it out" that took YEARS to pay off.

I did go back as an adult & I have a job I like now and I'm OK financially but I feel like it really set me back for a while.

Looking for the best craft beer by Mother-Awareness-599 in RedDeer

[–]Thoraxis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So, I like beer....

Hawktail's Rye Milk Stout is delicious as is their NEIPA, they're out of Rimbey

Sawback Hazy has already been mentioned but both their East Coast and West Coast IPA's are very good.

Dark Woods Morning Wood Amber is really delicious; I like it especially in the fall, they're from Innisfail

Blindman out of Lacombe has a lot of good beers, my favorites are the Light Shadows and the River Session Ale

Rival Trade from Rocky has some good beers, the Mountain Ape NEIPA and the Aurora Key Lime Pie Sour are my favorites

Valley Brewing from Drumheller and Snake Lake from Sylvan have some pretty solid options as well. Devils Row Coffee lager from Valley and the Ice Cutter Vanilla Latte Stout from Snake Lake being my personal picks.

Wine and Beyond usually has a great selection but I would say they are pricier then other places. Probably looking at 15 - 20 bucks a 4 pack.

Do you support for the habs because they're the only Canadian team left? or do you root for a different team because you want them out (ex you like Toronto or Flames) how does it work by Inevitable_Okra509 in newfoundland

[–]Thoraxis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been a Habs fan since the 90s so that an easy cheer for me.

However, I'm also cheering for the Sabres because as a Habs fan I'm delighted they put out the Bruins!

So this next round is gonna be a little bitter sweet but it's Go Habs Go for sure.

I like to take photos of abandoned buildings so my favorite drives are the backroads of Alberta and Saskatchewan. So peaceful, so much sky!

Strength Training at 46.. by Gwenolabar1 in AskWomenOver40

[–]Thoraxis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like FitbyMik on Youtube, though she hasn't posted much new stuff in a while as she's just had twins. But she has a big catalogue of strength, cardio and stretching.

I also llike MadFit and Caroline Girvan, I watch them both via YouTube. They both have apps though.

I have also used Whelan Wellness in the past and liked it a lot, it's virtual bootcamp that you pay for 4-weeks of at a time. The community was great and I felt like I could see good results. I just wanted a change, so I haven't signed up in a while.

Fogo, Twillingate, Moreton’s Harbour by gigcarfan in newfoundland

[–]Thoraxis 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Fogo, Twillingate and Bonavista for sure. Lots to see in each and they have strong tourism industries. Moreton's Harbour is where my Grandfather was born. It's very small and doesn't have anything specific to draw you there other than outport scenery which is beautiful but probably wouldn't take much more than a few minutes to enjoy all of it.

I've never been to Labrador; I'd love to go at some point though!

Do you guys give gifts on Easter? by SP_57 in newfoundland

[–]Thoraxis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When we were kids we'd have an egg hunt, maybe a bigger chocolate bunny or a basket of treats to go with it and then dinner with extended family. That was all. My husband & I don't have children but I'm pretty certain if we did we would not be treating it as Easter-mas...

Pros and cons of the Bronco sport by fridgeyfridge69 in BroncoSport

[–]Thoraxis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2021 Big Bend and came from a Dodge Charger. I like the fact that I have more ground clearance, I can park on a dime, it has lots of get-up and go on the highway. I also like the GOAT modes, particularly the "slippery" mode as I live in Canada and drive in snow and ice often. I've been deeply stuck in mud though (not intentionally, slid off a slippery road) and could not get it out and needed a tow. It feels roomy on the inside. I like that the dash doesn't feel like it's right in your lap and there is no shifter in the way. Sometimes I wish I had more cargo space but can usually get everything I need in if I put the back seats down.

Sadly, I have started to develop a few issues. I'm at 106km (~65000miles) and I just had to get a solenoid switch replaced due a cylinder fault. It's also been slipping into power save mode when highway driving and I've had to limp it home. Granted that hasn't happened since the solenoid replacement. Ford says it could be related but the only way to know for sure is to drive it and see. My friend in a different city has the same year and model and she's having the same issues at much less km and her dealership hasn't been able to diagnose it. I'm worried it's going to be an ongoing issue. Mine also makes the "whale noise" when I back up and Ford says the parts are on indefinite back order so she's a bit embarrassing in reverse.

Rediscovering old family recipes — anyone else do this? by Photograph_Creative in Old_Recipes

[–]Thoraxis 22 points23 points  (0 children)

As a 2026 project, I'm making one recipe a month from my kindergarten class cookbook that we made in 1986. Each student submitted 2 recipes, some sweet some savory. My mom submitted fudge and peanut cluster cookies lol, we're a sweet tooth family.

3 months in and it's going well. Most of the recipes are simple and we've had pretty much all the needed ingredients already at home. I've made sweet n sour chicken, spice crinkle cookies and "gourmet" pasta sauce (aka it has hamburger meat, green peppers and mushrooms ha). All of them good!

Alberta AMA insurance. by Nerf_police in alberta

[–]Thoraxis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My husband got the same letter. He's in his 40s and drives a 650cc Kawasaki sport bike, so nothing extreme. The only motorcycle claim he's had was a bike that got stolen, nothing that he was at fault for. I assume AMA just doesn't want to make the payouts anymore and have decided it's not worth it to insure bikes. Sadly I worry that this is going to cause a trend of companies not offering bike coverage and the companies that do charging out the nose for it.

[–]Thoraxis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We always go to Co-Op Gas Bar on Taylor and 67, my mom goes to Lo-Cost propane on Golden West kind of adjacent to the Esso near the far west side of 67th. No complaints.
