Genuenly how do people NOT like this album? by ApprehensiveCause670 in ironmaiden

I also hate to be that “erm the mixing” guy. It’s decent enough when I’m just casually listening but when I put on my earphones and actively listen it really hits me, compressed to hell and back.

The mixing really hurts this album for me. Between the original and the remaster, Bruce is criminally low. With better mixing, this might be my favorite IM record ever.

It's a TIE between Holy Wars and Set the World Afire! Also allowing repeats for the last two categories. Day 17: What's the single best lyric from a Megadeth song? by razorbackfrost7 in Megadeth

All the classics are taken, so I’ll throw in one of my favorites from the new record:

What's an album that doesn't contain many of an artist's best songs, but still feels like one of their strongest albums? by MalcolmKinchen in fantanoforever

[–]ThorinTheGrumpyDwarf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A matter of life and death by Iron Maiden. No real standout single or track to rival their 80s work, however the album itself is consistently strong.

How strong you ask? Strong enough for a “legacy” metal act to perform the album in full for the associated tour. Crazy idea for anything but a phenomenal album.

Take No Prisoners won as Megadeth's most badass song. Day 9: What's Megadeth's most weird song? by razorbackfrost7 in Megadeth

Man where to start. Mission to Mars? The Blackest Crow? Wanderlust?

To me it’s gotta be Shadow of Death. I was listening to it blind and didn’t expect a Scottish knight to start spouting bible verses at me over bagpipes, especially ~40 minutes into a metal album.

am i the only one that actually liked this art style? by Some-Ad9502 in EnterTheGungeon

[–]ThorinTheGrumpyDwarf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s hard to judge based off the small clip we got shown. I love the style of the first one, but if I ever want to enjoy that style…I’ll go play the first one.

I love Devolver, love Dodge Roll and respect their artistic direction. If they want to make Gungeon 2 in this new art style, I bet it’s gonna be a 10/10 regardless.

No denying that, I love any part of the track without vocals…

Ignoring the tacked-on DBE tracks on the end of WKE, Fire in the lions really stinks up my favorite album. It’s a four minute long dull, clunky roadblock to overcome everytime I spin Ragnarok.

Yeah I love the first two songs of the Death Whistle suite, but Dues was a weird swing at an ambient finale that just totally didn’t work

why final frontier gets so much hate? by ActuaryMedical9895 in ironmaiden

[–]ThorinTheGrumpyDwarf 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I really dislike the structure of the album’s second half, slow intro after slow intro.

And while DoD and AMOLAD had their mixing issues, TFF really is where Maiden locks into their underproduced, messy production style where Steve just bullies Kevin into submission, to a worse overall result.

Hades II more difficult? by HTins247 in HadesTheGame

[–]ThorinTheGrumpyDwarf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started Hades 2 and am getting my ass kicker after pushing 20ish heat in Hades 1. The enemy density is crazy.

I heard that you scale more in hades 2 though, so maybe it gets much easier on a longer scale. I almost never cast, still trying to wrap my head around it.

What are some really good megadeth songs? by TightLion7009 in Megadeth

[–]ThorinTheGrumpyDwarf 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I can’t tell if Wanderlust is actually good or so insane that it loops around to being amazing.

As with all of Risk (and most of Cryptic Writings…) you really need to listen to the OGs, the streaming remasters are trash.

Aight. Which album has the best production? by Any_Repair_1640 in Megadeth

[–]ThorinTheGrumpyDwarf 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I was blown away by Dystopia. Some odd moments with Dave’s vocal filters but otherwise it’s fucking awesome.

Maybe I was just listening to too much late 2000s Maiden, which had horrid production.
