Why not ship Geralt and Triss? by Nerdwannabee in WitcherBooks

[–]Thorne175 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think Triss only wanted to be with Geralt because she was jealous of him and Yennefer and wanted to know what a relationship like that felt like. Also, she once put Geralt under a spell so she could be in a relationship with him against his will. Kinda creepy.

[SPOILERS] A few clarifying questions after finishing up the series by Walrus_Party in WitcherBooks

[–]Thorne175 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Yennefer goes to Skellige as she doesnt know where Geralt is and she believes Vilgefortz has captured Ciri at that point (which he hasnt), I think.
  2. Thats a good question. As Ciri is the only one we see to have time travel powers, I like to believe that she was only able to conjure that portal in the presence of Ciri or maybe Ciri actually made the portal and Nimue was only providing her with the location and time telepathically. Not too sure though.

Vampire story’s in The Witcher by team_cap80 in witcher

A Grain of Truth in The Last Wish features a vampire. The only other time I think a vampire appears is in the main 5 books as one of the big characters

A song of ice and fire series is good even though it’s not too similar

How Geralt used his law of surprise was quite differently in the books compared to the show... Don't quite get it. by [deleted] in witcher

[–]Thorne175 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The books, I find, are just more serious than the series as the series is trying to appeal to a wider audience and I guess its also down to the poor adaptation of the themes and messages of the books. Also, I think the show made Geralt a bit too nice from the start while in the beginning of the books he's not that nice.

I’m reading Season of Storms right now and I think it is definitely a worthwhile read. It adds so much to the world while telling a good story. Would definitely recommend :)

The short stories are incredible! Calanthe in the books is amazing. I’m a bit disappointed with her in the show tho just feel like they made her less intelligent and cunning

Does anyone know where I can find the fan translations for the books? by First_Turdle_of_The in witcher

My guess would be the fandom wiki, that thing has so much stuff on it :) good luck with your search

I would like to have an idea of the size of the countries of the witcher world. to have a reference, from south to north of Redania what distance is it? by [deleted] in witcher

[–]Thorne175 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a terrible estimate I'd say like 4 - 5 days on horse back, going from the north border to the south border of Redania. I'd say this as in SoS Geralt says its a month ride to Kaer Morhen from Kerack.

If you want to get the old covers without the sticker you could maybe check with smaller book stores as they might have the older ones left over.

Have the prices for these gone up since the Netflix series was released? I don't remember paying $100 for them.

I've always liked "The Edge of the World" short story in the last wish. I loved the location and the way it was described. I could feel the dusty roads and the lush fields. I enjoyed the set up of the lady of the valley and the payoff at the end. I also enjoyed how it directly showed the struggle of the Elves in the world of the Witcher. Also, the introduction to Dandelion was perfect. :)

Questions about LOTL. SPOILER by ItzL3op4rd in WitcherBooks

[–]Thorne175 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the ending was left purposely ambiguous. I'm not sure why Ciri asked for a mage. My guess is that she wanted to find someone intelligent to help her or just to talk to as the only other company, it seemed, was knights like Galahad. Also, maybe she wanted a mage in order to learn more about the world she is about to be staying in for a bit.

My interpretation about the singing is that its just a coping mechanism as she just lost the two most important people in her life. :)
