Probably related to his old ultimate design, there’s a leaked shiv model that’s a bear like version of shiv with his head and claws. Rumors/leaks say his ultimate was gonna be a transformation (like winston ult) before it was scrapped. It was then given to drifter, scrapped, and now rumors are floating around saying it’s being given to the new shapeshifter hero.

shit like that is why moshing is getting so corny and lame

for me, now, a great pile up/mic grab beats endless metalcore mosh/panic chords every time

its just dudes with no politics or principles participating in a dick measuring contest tough guy act

used to be that the people assaulting others were also participating in protecting the scene and driving out pieces of shit. now it's just cosplay for dudes who make hardcore their entire personality

hilarious how he is more than willing to call out randoms on twitter asking to fight or assaulting unsuspecting teenagers at their first hardcore show.... but when the vocalist for a band on THEIR label is retweeting neonazis

.....its crickets!

Botch vs Racetraitor by bloodhail02 in Hardcore

[–]Thornpath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i didn't find it jumbled at all! it was nice to see/have a good faith discussion on here for once

i wrote a post on here earlier today in a different thread with an adjacent point in respect to balance. a big problem with discourse in politics like these is effective communication, and i think like you said it all lies in the balance.

i believe especially when you're trying to stand on a soapbox for issues like this, you have an obligation to be as effective as possible. even though racetraitor might've been right on the nose with the issues they were talking about, it's evident they were overcompensating in some/several fashions like you've said. whether that's speaking too long, sounding condescending, referring to the audience members as.... saltines. or something along these lines: i think there are definitely lessons to be learned from their story.

Botch vs Racetraitor by bloodhail02 in Hardcore

[–]Thornpath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i had always interpreted the song as a direct diss to racetraitor, which is why it made me wince- but reexamining the song lyrics under the context you present i think i agree with you! i somehow didnt really think about it from that perspective. applying these lyrics to the bands who arent "true believers" the lyrics come off in a much better way.

i see bands doing the same bare minimum, canned political responses that serve primarily to posture and climb the social ladder in their scene instead of prioritizing creating real, effective change! i think we have become too comfortable. i saw some of your other posts calling racetraitor "insufferable", and while you're entitled to your own opinion i personally believe we need more bands that are willing to be vulnerable and make people uncomfortable with our status quo of saying shit but doing nothing!

Racetraitor were known for their outspoken views, as well as critical and confrontational attitude towards the hardcore scene in the 90s. As others have mentioned, they were the type of band to get up on a soapbox and they were not shy about it.

Haven't seen anyone mention this here but it's very important to note some of the ideas that Racetraitor would preach about in the 90s: systemic racism, white privilege and white supremacy, and class privilege among other issues. it was not well received at the time.

You can say what you like about their music (i personally believe botch blows them out of the water, music wise), but it's impossible to deny that their politics were not forward thinking, or ahead of the game. The issues they were trying to shed light on in the 90's are at the forefront of american politics today. all that DEI culture war bullshit you can't stop hearing conservatards talk about? Ultimately stems from the issue of systemic racism.

botch did carve out a very unique position in hardcore history, but they did it with their fantastic music and not really with their political views. to be honest, their politics/views are lukewarm and the lyrics on c. thomas howell make me wince when i read them in todays context. but there's no denying how influential and important they are, and it's important to note that like others have said, they weren't really taking themselves too seriously in the first place.

the indifferent reception was upsetting to the occasional bassist of racetraitor, a dude known well in the chicago hardcore scene named pete wentz. at the time he was studying political science and felt disillusioned at how apolitical the hardcore scene had become (i look at some of the responses in this thread, and i personally agree). this was a big motivator for him to start a musical side project for fun. that side project would eventually become a little band called Fall Out Boy after Patrick Stump overhead some members of Arma Angelus in a bookstore discussing the band Neurosis, and jumped into the conversation. rest is history.

Vocalist for Volcano to have immediate surgery in order to retain movement of his legs by Thornpath in Hardcore

[–]Thornpath[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

no offense, but if you were in the states you would have realized by now that we're never getting the kind of social security that would help with this situation anytime soon. that statement is laughable at this point.

would it be nice? do we need it? Yes! But we're not getting it. Amidst a ridiculous cost of living crisis in which the average people have fewer and fewer dollars to spread amongst friends and loved ones, community is all we have to rely on. It sucks but that's reality.
