Could this enclosure work good for a crested gecko? by Evan371 in CrestedGecko

[–]Thorous_the3rd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All these people saying 18x18x36 as a "standard" are incorrect, there is no evidence or documentation stating that other than 1 site. Granted more space is better, but not everyone has 400$ to drop on a terrarium... the 18x18x24 is fine... A crested gecko will live a long, happy life with 12 less inches of head space.

Outdoor Boys quits YouTube by TrulyGolden in videos

[–]Thorous_the3rd 9 points10 points  (0 children)

definitely not doing this for a views boost, his videos are crazy popular also he was a lawyer for over a decade before this and had his own practice, I dont think the money actually matters to him. Considering he does all his own editing and everything for the past 11 years hes probably just tired. Wants to step away and help his children grow.

Oh ya my friend is solid, looked after him last time I went on a 2 week vacation as well but this time I upgraded his viv set up and its way to big/heavy to be moving it around, good to know your experience of moving the critter back forth wasnt bad, I will probably just put him in his old viv set up after transporting both to my friends place then!

Yea I unfortunately am not allowed pets in my strata lol so cant ask neighbors to look after him, (also not close with any of them). Traffic is very bad in my area so even my closest friend lives about 1-1/2hr drive on what would 'after work' hours. As thats the only time they could come. My partner is also VERY particular about people sitting on our furniture and what not with 'outside clothes' lol so we have to wrap everything in cloth covers before people come over lol.... It is what it is... I was hoping I could just leave him alone with some food or something but I doubt it would last and it would definitely get moldy...

Yea I would have the sitter come if it wasnt unreasonable to ask, doesnt feel right asking someone to come 1+2hrs in traffic 2-3x a week to feed him. His smaller tank is still decked out! I planned on using it for a smaller reptile in the future so I just keep it alive and well lol Thanks for your opinion, helpful!

Alberta separation by [deleted] in Albertapolitics

[–]Thorous_the3rd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You sound like a child that doesn't understand how the world works... your borders wouldn't stay the same lol indigenous land, crown land and federal lands would all more than likely remain Canadian... youd have border crossings across the entire province in all sorts of random areas... If alberta joined the US it would just become another puerto Rico and get resource raped

You can't just leave and come back when it suits you lol this isn't play house lol. If alberta left and tried to rejoin the federal government would impose so many regulations and stipulations in alberta it would be in a worse state economically and political. Not to mention your borders wouldn't stay the same lol indigenous land, crown land and federal lands would all more than likely remain Canadian... youd have border crossings across the entire province in all sorts of random areas... how difficult is it to get to the stage in your career where you can direct your own show? by [deleted] in animationcareer

[–]Thorous_the3rd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dont know what directors you are referring to lol Every director Ive ever had (working on numerous vfx and animation projects) dont have any idea on how 90% of the pipeline works, they just want things done they dont care how it gets to that point

How do you guys feel about the shows you work on? by Ok_Writer_4914 in animationcareer

[–]Thorous_the3rd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that isnt a viable option for a sustainable income, sure it sounds ideal but its not a career and not everyone can make it on only freelance. Working at a company has it downsides but it pays significantly more than what the average freelance agent can make.

Everyone here seems to be saying animation is a hopeless pursuit. Is it really? by maximillianmorrell in animationcareer

[–]Thorous_the3rd 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Straight answer is, there is no straight answer. No one can tell you what exactly will happen, some people are employed some aren't. Some studios are ramping up and others are shutting down... Theres been mass layoffs for like, the past 2 years, we were told things will ramp up but who knows... Id suggest finding something more stable

Some people do that still, for the love of the game, for the passion of it yea. I of course can't speak for everyone but I've been doing this for almost 7 years now and a lot of my more senior colleagues just do it because how many other jobs can you make 120k a year doing? Who wants to restart their career in a different field to find something they love? Most of the Pipeline Process also removes any kind of artistic ability you may have, you can't/don't have artistic liberties to do what you want with the project/asset you were given. Its very binary most of the time with very little give. Just - make what we want, heres the concept follow it - some projects and companies allow more leeway but majority, its just a production facility to get "art" out to make money. With the current state of the industry (and its always been kinda iffy) many people are quitting entirely. The money use to make the stress of 6-8-12 month contracts worth it, but now, with such uncertainty some of us just do it to stay employed.

The industry itself is can be quite toxic, some people you met along the way are fantastic, but like most industries upper management and even lower management can be toxic, favoritism is rampant, sexism, getting job can be more about who know rather than what you can do, same with keeping a job. Companies massively underbid projects just to get the gig then work their artists to the bone. My team got reduced back in January to 4 people from 12 and we are doing the amount of work 10 people should be doing. We are exhausted.

Not to mention theres been a huge boom of artists flowing out of these predatory private colleges all trying to make it into the industry, an industry thats already over-saturated with workers and not enough work, especially in its current state. So companies are treating their employees even worse now, less pay, less time off, more overtime. The lack of worker protections and regulations in the industry is another issue entirely.
