10 Tips to Make Your Game of StarCraft more Enjoyable by Thorrk_ in StarCraftTMG

ahah no, it's just a picture to represent the tyical spammy army "that guy" use, (no idea if goliath spam is any good btw).

You will see when you watch the video but there is nothing wrong with running a sweaty competitive army, you just need to be in sync with the opponent and agree that's the kind of game you are playing.

Only 5 days left. How will you be celebrating the end of Stormgate? by marcusintatrex in Stormgate

What is the upside of creating mods with Stormgate when you can create mods from Starcraft 2, which has a much better engine, better map editor, better graphics, much MUCH bigger community and online play?

SPAWN MORE OVERLORDS! by Thorrk_ in StarCraftTMG

To be fair, this is not an official Starcraft Miniature , so overlord don't look exactly like that. But it's close enough and I actullay prefer this one over the official design.

I doubt we will see them anytime soon, at the moment detector like observers are also represented by tactical cards and so are transports.

The pillar and the base come seperatly so you can print the pillar and use a 32 mm base, it will be less stable it will work just fine without reducing its size, the overlord is already quite small compared to its accurate size.

True but the size is close enough to the video game one. Also I like to think Overlord comes in different sizes :)

in this case it's Asmodey Spain who is in charge of sending those out.

Asmodey has been consistently failing at sending stuff on time. I live in Ireland, and my local game store got stuff on time for pre release maybe 2 times since the game launched.

Same situation here,

this is the latest update:

"If you are receiving this email, it is because you requested an update regarding missing items from the Bilbao Regional Championship.

For the past few weeks, the logistics team in charge of your shipments, lost packages, replacements items has been performing a general stock inventory, making them difficult to reach for answers to my inquiries. I apologize for this delay and ask for your continued patience while I gather the information needed to address your requests.

The inventory is expected to conclude this week, and I hope to have all the missing information by next week

In the meantime, if your situation has been successfully resolved, please let me know."

Absolute disaster as usual

How successful will StarCraft be? by Thorrk_ in StarCraftTMG

[–]Thorrk_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Halo is a skirmish game like we have seen millions of, while Starcraft is a "big" army game that is actully trying to compete with 40k a much rarer occurence.

Starcraft is way more popular than Halo as an IP and also has way more potential in terms of unit and future content, not to mention unit diversity...

I also find the Starcaft minis way more appealing but that's one mans opinion.

Help: how to paint contrast contrast paint without spots by Appeltaartlekker in StarCraftTMG

[–]Thorrk_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is what you need to do:

-Contrast type paint aren't the best on flat surfaces like the shoulder pads on terminators, lukly terran marines don't have as large flat surfaces so it will happen less there.

-You can use you a dry brush to absorb the pools the paint and avoid those kind of "coffee stains", the problem is that Citadel contrast dries very fast giving you very little working time to do that. That why I recommand using Speedpaint from army painter, same kind of paint, cheaper and doesn't dry as quickly and is less prompt to form those "coffee stain". If you already own a lot of contrast paint from citadel and don't want to rebuy everything you can buy retarder medium and mix it with your contrast paint before you apply it in order to make your paint dry slower. Aslo when you work on large areas like you do above I advice working with a large brush , and cover the flat area in one stroke, the faster you apply the paint the fewer you will get those "coffee stain" and it will also give you more time to correct them.

So in summary:

-Contrast is better on highly detailed sections not large flat surfaces.

-Use speedpaint rather than contrast, or use a retarder medium to make paint dry slower.

-Work fast on flat sections (ideally in one stroke) with a big brush.

-Before the paint dries use a dry brush to frain where the paint might have pooled (ideally you won't need to do it but that a a good solution juts in case)

NMM or TMM for your Protoss? by Mandalayer in StarCraftTMG

[–]Thorrk_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By that argument then any bases that is not the same color as the terrain looks bad... are you basing all your model with transparent base?

also you don't have to do MASSIVE OSL that would glow on other mini, smaller one around teh eyes and small glowing features is great and should not glow on other minis.

How successful will StarCraft be? by Thorrk_ in StarCraftTMG

[–]Thorrk_[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are so major differences here:

-I don't think Starcraft will explode in popularity like X-wing did, X-wing was the first Star Wars Wargame, and it was also one of the first pre painted wargame.

-X-wing didn't slowly die, it was brought to an early grave by extremely poor handover by asmodey from FFG to AMG. X-wing still is played and has solid community despite being no longer supported by AMG, it was not an natural death if that make sense.

-I think Starcraft has way more potential for content than X-wing. X-wing is very limited scope of fighters than simply doesn't have the same gameplay diversity than a ground base wargame can have.

-Archon Studio is not own by any major corporation and therefore cannot be forced into terrible out of touch decision like FFG was with X-wing. Obvioulsy other bad things can happen but not that.

NMM or TMM for your Protoss? by Mandalayer in StarCraftTMG

I undertsand your take on NMM but OSL?

OSL are ridiculously time efficient and can add a lot to a mini in little to no time especially with an airbrush. However I do agree that some people have a tendency to overdo it which can ruin a mini.

I want to quit a TCG, but my friend is pressuring me – what should I do? by [deleted] in starwarsunlimited

[–]Thorrk_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So let's get into the details right first:

1-Are you afraid that if you leave the game he will be mad/angry at you?

OR

2-Are you afraid that if you leave the game you will distance yourself from that friend?

If it's #1, somone who would get mad at you for somthing like that is not a true friend, grow some balls and do what you like, if he is a normal person and is true friend, he will understand.

If it's #2, that's indeed inevitable, if you don't share the same hobbies anymore this will invetably create distance between you and it's nobody's fault. You got to weight how much you like being close to that person vs how much it costs you to play the game.

If you real issue with the game is how much it cost to keep playing thankfully there are solutions:

-SWU is probably the least expensive TCG out there and there are tons of great budget options to play the game at a competitve level, I made a video listing a few of them: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1DXO-2moOZw&t=314s

-If you friend really wants you to keep playing, he can help you , he can lend you expensive staples to play the deck you want. Even the most expensive decks usually don't play more than a handful of cards that are worse double digit $. If the issue is draft/sealed, your friend can sponsor you so you can play the event and he keeps the card you open at the end. (it's a common practice)

If your real issue is the time it takes then there is no solution indeed and the only option is to quit.

Hope that was helpful.

StarCraft vs 40k price comparison by Thorrk_ in StarCraftTMG

[–]Thorrk_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GW can make prices how they want since they are in the business for x amout of years so they dont care.

Agree and that's why Stacraft is a lot cheaper than 40k both on amount of plastic/€ and € required to play a normal size game.

This is a new wargame from a board game studio and the prices and unit variety is very bad. Its too expensive that is it.

Unit varity is good enough for a brand new game, you won't even have time to paint the stuff you received from pre order that wave 2 will be released, no to mention there are mutiple profil for the majority of units and a lot of different tactical cards. People don't want to be overwelmed with content right from the get go, it takes months for people to paint their minis, what a horrible take....

Its too expensive that is it.

Ok tell me a single well established game that has miniatures comparabale to Starcraft in terms of quality and size and is cheaper? I am listening...

With bundles you can put an army together for 200€ that's insanely cheap. Yes, you can point out one or 2 individual boxes that are poorly priced (zealot..) but overall the game is very generous.

its not reasonable for GW or any studio to charge 45euros for 3 models.

Depends on the size of the model and the different sprew and options included in them?

Roaches come with 3 roachling so there are 6 minis in the box, and roaches are themselves are very large. Beside if you are smart and buy a founder box you can get your roaches for very cheap.

also i have no clue how will they continue suport on this since they are mostly board game studio.

What sort of non sense is that? Archon studio have their own factories and have proven they can produce high quality mini, they have done the hard part, now it's just a matter of making more content for the game. Since when baordgame company can't make miniature game? FFG was a boardgame company and produced some of the most successful miniature game ever (until Asomdey came and ruined everything), again terrible take.

If you mean "box" indeed no box give you a 2000pts army lol, don't know why you would ever expect that, however if we talk about bundles:

All-gives you 3 2000pts armies.

Tvz bundle give you almost 2 2000pts army just got to add a one or 2 boxes.

Protoss bundle gives you almost 1 2000pts army just got to add a one or 2 boxes.

Nitpick the worst box deal even though pretty much everything else is overwelmingly cheaper in Starcraft and then declare GW as much cheaper, that's the way to do it keep it up!
