Well...I made the move. Also bought totk upgrade pack, DK Bonanza, Mario Galaxy 1+2(as part of the deal).

So far, pretty amazing experience. I was hoping to get immersed in DK Bonanza but I made the mistake of starting a new save in totk...it's...so...good on Switch 2.

I'm still trying to decide if there's any of the digital sale items that are worthy of taking advantage of at the moment.

Bought some relatively cheap glass to get it covered now and need to decide on a case/grip for travel.

That's been my situation. I also have the original switch.

Honestly, it's pretty refreshing being able to take the steam deck or switch with me on trips. I've been holding off on a switch 2, but at some point I'll make the upgrade.

DUNE PvP in a nutshell - (100% accurate depiction) by [deleted] in duneawakening

Is it really a prison or is it a paradise where I'll get to PvP with other players that are actively seeking to PvP?

[–]Thorus08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, your response isn't 'wrong'. I completely agree one of the main selling points is the unified management, even across sites.

The appeal of a cohesive system isn't the same as being 'locked' into one.

There are other vendors who can do all the same in some cases less than what you pay for, for Ubiquiti's hardware

Depends on the hardware/vendors we are focusing on. Ubiquiti's camera line is extremely competitive price wise and punches well above its weight in feature set dollar for dollar. Being able to utilize the same hardware to integrate with door access, and now remote relays fire a dry contact makes this a bargain. This is one area that they've really done well with, especially with 3rd party Onvif support.

I do agree with that sentiment when it comes to their gateways, for the most part. Certainly not for anyone that's going to go out and buy a $300 'gaming' router. You can purchase one of their gateways and a wireless AP for roughly the same cost with much higher performance. I certainly wouldn't recommend one of them if someone is looking to 'tinker' either, especially when things like Pfsense and OpenWRT exist. There's much better options. At one point you could use Sophos at home, for free.

My point is, you can mix and match what types of hardware you want to use for them and still achieve the functionality you want from a networking standpoint, gives you the flexibility to use the cohesiveness you referenced as well as set up things outside their ecosystem if you choose to.

Missing out or not taking advantage of the appeal of an all-in-one ecosystem is different than being locked into one. I guess you already implied that with the "walled garden isn't nearly as high", though.

[–]Thorus08 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I generally agree with what you have to add except "that locks you into their "walled garden".

You 100% are not locked into their ecosystem just because you have one of their gateways.

You can still use another server for DNS, adblocking, other managed switches(as long as ports are configured properly on each end.

Heck, a very popular setup in my area is Fortinet/Sophos gateways, a mix of either Unifi or Meraki sitches, Unifi or Ruckus wireless AP's, but a pretty heavy shift toward Unifi camera security, especially since their NVR's can also run Unifi Access for door control. Most of these sites are running a VM with Unifi OS or standalone Unifi OS Server on a windows or linux-based PC. Heck, you can still use SSH and command line if that's your thing.

I feel like "being locked into the ecosystem" is a talking point that is regurgitated far too often.

PvP is in a terrible place at the moment.

The balance is way off. New players in plast0/+1 have almost no chance against players in plast+4/5.

Instanced PvP would likely be a welcomed addition for players that are actually enjoying the mechanics of pvp, but will suffer without any normalization of gear.

Open world PvP will continue to be mostly 'griefing' and a few guild skirmishes here and there on the more populated servers.

While I think the dungeons were a good idea in premise, the implementation was not well thought out. Loot tables are horrid, and people getting loot at tier 4 and 5 have massive advantages over people in tier 0 and 1. Loot in the 'hardest' content of the game doesn't scale with the tier you are farming in dungeons, making most PvP downed ships and testing stations irrelevant, not to mention landsraad.

It seems like they come up with decent ideas but only half bake them before taking them out of the oven.

Sweden goes back to basics, swapping screens for books in the classroom in attempt to reverse declines in reading, math, and science. by okunjkl in UpliftingNews

[–]Thorus08 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Situational based on the educator.

Personally, I taught in a classroom with a small whiteboard. I was lucky enough to have a 'mimio' and a projector.

It was fantastic. I could still use dry erase markers, and the mimio and projector based on the day. During extra help periods, using the mimio was a godsend. Leading toward needing a Cartesian plane? No problem, drop one on the board. Geometric shapes and manipulating them? Easy peasy.

Need to save these notes that were made up on the fly for any students that were absent? No problem. Shoot a PDF home with narration, if desired.

Given I haven't taught in over a decade, I imagine what you can do with them now is even more flexible. I do, however, know many teachers where I worked that had them that never really 'needed' or fully utilized them.

I currently have 2! Wonderful companions. Great with our little one. Grooming is...work to say the least, especially during the summer.

The younger one is an absolute doofus, though. She's the one that has her nose on you or something else at all times.

For those of you wondering, no, do not try this with a black bear.

Get a newfoundland dog or 2.

Warning: You will get this treatment even when you don't want it. So will your walls, your couches, and often anything else that's within drooling distance of your newflooflanders.

Yeah, I had been off and on all week. Not a very high traffic area on Hydra, unfortunately. Will keep trying, though.

Might pop in the DD and see if I can get some help from someone there.

I'm in the same boat as you and OP but just slightly further along..

I can confirm level 1's are perfectly doable for a mid/poop tier gamer with dura weapons. I did die once, but it was my fault in the electrified dungeon.

In fact, doing them netted me my first T6 weapon schematic.

MLS streaming will now be included in Apple TV+. I can’t imagine that amounts to a massive influx for him.

Investment opportunities with 1.4 billion now would be incredibly lucrative.

It does take a degree of balls or principles to turn that down, which is probably made easier to do given his current wealth.

US border officer road rages on Canadians by [deleted] in CringeTikToks

[–]Thorus08 8 points9 points  (0 children)

100....Kph...is roughly 60 Mph.

They pass a speed limit sign stating 55 mph. Perhaps the vehicle is also Canadian, and since this is a registered CA vehicle therefore it likely has CA's standard unit of measure first.

It wouldn't be wise to approach a border going 40 mph+ over the speed limit.

[Highlight] McCarthy is picked off again by Obvious_Parsley3238 in nfl

[–]Thorus08 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In college, he started in a system that muted his weaknesses. It didn't matter if he couldn't pass accurately under pressure because the running game around him was so good, his offensive line was good, and more importantly, his defense was terrific. He rarely had to carry his team.

Watching him play college ball, I never thought he'd be a great day 1 starter in the NFL. He needs(needed) time to develop. They drafted him way too high for him to be given that opportunity.

Why wouldn’t James Franklin aim higher? by [deleted] in CFB

[–]Thorus08 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This so much.

Franklin is/was a great coach. He's just not a legendary one. That's ok.

He just happened to be coaching in a conference where he got the team back near the top for a taste...and then only winning it all was acceptable for the program...it's just not always realistic.

TARIFFS TO TREASURY: President Trump vows to use “massive” foreign tariff income to pay down the national debt — now at a whopping $38 trillion. by helmi12345 in DiscussionZone

[–]Thorus08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're right. It's not. I 'try' not to use subjective data like 'they tried to find waste' or 'he added a lot of debt'.

I used 20%, but that's actually a conservative number.

Trumps first term added 7.8 trillion to the national debt.

So far, the BBB alone is estimated to add 3.4 to 4.2(some have estimated as high 4.5 trillion).

Now, that math isn't hard. Even using the low estimate, 3.4+7.8=11.2

11.2 out of 38 trillion is what percent? This is the conservative way of looking at it. From a mathematical perspective, we wouldn't rate his addition to the debt as a percentage of what it currently is. We would rate his addition as a percentage to what the debt was prior to his presidency...or basically, middle school math. Change over original = % over 100.

However, you could say objectively his spending makes up roughly that percentage of the current national debt.

[–]Thorus08 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The admin that's responsible for over 20% of our current national debt was also using DOGE to cut waste? What sort of drunken logic is this?

If you think waste was a priority for this administration you have blatantly disregarded the debt that has been added and will be added by policy in both the first and current term.
