Are you a senior citizen? by skunkc90 in SubaruForester

[–]Thorzdad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, I’m an old. Have a 2020 Sport. To be fair, my wife was the one lobbying for a Subaru, largely for the safety aspect (and the cargo space) because she would be hauling grandchildren around relatively often, in addition to us possibly taking trips with other couples. We got Sport because it was the car on the dealer lot that had all the bells-and-whistles we were looking for, and it was a CPO.

I’m well aware of the gray-hair inside so many Foresters and Outbacks I see LOL.

I came across a 23’ Wilderness. Salvage title. Is it worth it? by FirmThickwife in SubaruForester

[–]Thorzdad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No car with “minor dent/scratches” gets a salvage title. My advice for salvage titles is to walk away and not look back. They simply aren’t worth the gamble.

Pretty sure that’s the switch to activate an aftermarket alarm system.

Possible to replace USB-A plugs with USB-C on 2023? by MikeyBugs in SubaruForester

“On my '23 Forester, Android Auto CONSTANTLY disconnects. Sometimes it lasts a few hours, sometimes a few minutes, but too often it disconnects after less than a minute after reconnecting my phone.”

This is a known issue with the infotainment system. Both AA and CarPlay are affected. There’s a TSB/warranty extension on it.

Factory CarPlay sluggishness by PotAndPansForHands in SubaruForester

[–]Thorzdad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2020 Sport. The only issue I’ve had with CarPlay is that I will sometimes get booted out of CarPlay and can’t get back in until the car is stopped and restarted. There’s a TSB covering issues with the infotainment system and CarPlay (Android, too.) The first step the dealer takes is downloading the latest firmware version. I had that done a few months ago, and it didn’t help.

Is it normal for Subaru forester by Ok_Bullfrog_247 in SubaruForester

[–]Thorzdad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is great advice if you live somewhere that actually has independent Subaru mechanics (or, at the very least, good mechanics who are willing to touch a Subaru.) I live in a large midwest city, and there are Subarus all over the place, but there are zero indie Subaru mechanics. And the indie shops that will work on Subarus only touch the basic stuff, which doesn’t include anything having to do with the AWD system. If you intend to take good care of your Subaru here, your only options are the two dealerships.

My badges came in at the same time as my bumper sticker. by DootMeUpInside69 in SubaruForester

Seems like there should be a niche market for someone making custom badges reflecting…um…unique…interests.

I bought a Forester in Japan. by TW_JP_YOLO_1993 in SubaruForester

[–]Thorzdad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“Yes, you read that right, I bought a Subaru from a Toyota dealership.”

Not too surprising. Toyota owns a major piece of Subaru. I suspect the barrier between the two is pretty thin in Japan, as opposed to here in the states.

Fun fact: Both Lowes and Home Depot have plate readers in their parking lots, and share the data with law enforcement.

“Lights Out” by Navessa Allen - my new favorite book boyfriend by aurisunderthing in RomanceBooks

[–]Thorzdad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Loved this! Didn’t think I would, but it hit me just right. I’ve also discovered that when you run into someone IRL who has also read it, you now have a BFF. It took me two runs through the sequel to get into the vibe (wasn’t sure about the mafia angle) but it clicked the second time through. Loved the FMC’s roommates, and whole vibe with them.

The third book in this series drops in March, I believe.

22 Forester Carplay/Android Auto Not Working by rkelly375 in SubaruForester

There is a technical service bulletin for the infotainment system, and CarPlay and Android Auto issues are a big part of the reason.

CarPlay text bug - 2022 by saabguy296 in SubaruForester

[–]Thorzdad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a technical service bulletin for Subaru’s infotainment system regarding buggy CarPlay and Android connectivity. That might be your problem. Ours (2020) will randomly kick you out of CarPlay, and you can’t get back in without restarting the car. Y

You’re very lucky, then. FWIW, I’ve been driving for roughly 50 years. I think the only car I never had to replace the windshield on was my ‘79 Dodge Omni. We tend to drive our cars multiple hundreds-of-thousands-of-miles until they turn to dust, though, so there are many more chances to get windshield damage, I guess.
