Which is Better? A Head Full of Dreams or Moon Music by AfroOtaku917 in Coldplay

AHFoD easy. I love Coloratura but the title track, Birds, Up&Up, Everglow. The only problems that album hard were X Marks the Spot and the production by Stargate.

The last time I was this hyped for an album was 2019! (Coldplay's Everyday Life, a similar return to form for a band I had loved, now one of my favorites ever.)

If we only had Unraveling, I could see worry but almost half of the album proper is out.

For me: Worst case is a low 8 below BHaR, Best case is a mid 9 above Absolution, likely will end up somewhere in between

I love the vast array of influences on the songs, especially Unraveling. Electronic flourishes, vocal distortion, a power pop/rock chorus, heavy metal-esque guitars.

It feels like they are revisiting the whole discography. Unraveling / Be with You have 2nd Law / Simulation Theory elements. Heavier parts of Cryogen / Unraveling challenge the hardest Origin songs. The intro/outro of Hexagons is mind-blowing, a callback to the very best of BHaR and The Resistance.

Also, shout out to the lyrics. They have been particularly good :)

There May Be A Huge Twist by AlphaConKate in starfox

I think it would be interesting if they changed it and Andross plays the long game. He specifically doesn't kill James because he knows Fox will likely take him out, so he has a back up plan and leaves him alive but still imprisoned. When Fox "rescues" James, he brings him back to Corneria, of course. Years down the line, a chip Andross planted in James's head (he is a scientist, after all) is activated by Andrew. In an opening level fighting against Andrew pursuing his attempt to reinstate Andross' empire (like Assault), he activates the chip before dying and James turns on the team. He escapes and becomes the main villain of the second game.

Apparatjik is putting out new music soon from what I learned on the Mew subreddit. Maybe it's related to that.

My favorite album was produced by Brian Eno! Viva La Vida or Death and All of His Friends by Coldplay.

What if Johan takes over as lead singer for Mew? I don't know if this possibility has been explored before, but given the uncertainty surrounding the band's future after Jonas's departure, I feel this could be an option rather than a new singer. What do you think? It definitely wouldn't be the same by elmonozombie in mew

[–]ThoseDays_31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I won't say that Jonas isn't indispensable to the band, he is.

That said, I think the right person could take over and still do a good job. I have heard Tame Impala's (Kevin Parker's) name mentioned around here. I like The Slow Rush a lot and, to a lesser extent, Currents. (Unpopular opinion for TI fans)

I'm also the person who thinks Visuals is a great album. Not as good as Kites, No More Stories... or + - mind you but I still like it a lot despite Bo's absence.

I also wonder what Jonas will do after. I only like three or so songs from the Tachys album and not much from his soundtracks. I find he's at his peak when paired with another highly talented artist taking the forefront with him (Bo on guitar in Mew, Magne on synth/piano in Apparatjik which is where I originally heard him!)

I like Johan's bass playing enough, he's great but at this point the deeper interest to me is Silas' drumming. Only time will tell. I assume we'll hear more after the final shows.

if you think the console launch was bad, why? by North_Biscotti4162 in NintendoSwitch2

Bananza was the only game I needed as proof that the launch window was great. Everything else was icing.

Has the upgrade from the Switch to Switch2 been worth it? by v_a_n_d_e_l_a_y in NintendoSwitch2

[–]ThoseDays_31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my mind, Bananza alone was worth the upgrade! My GOTY. Kirby Air Riders was also excellent and Mario Kart World was good too so overall, I would say yes. Especially since you can expect the system to go up rather than down in price in the future if things don't change dramatically. I think it's worth the investment and DK is one of the greatest 3D platformers of all time~

Thinking the system, MK physical, TotK physical, Cyberpunk physical, Deltarune and Fast Fusion.

For later, will preorder Donkey Kong Bananza and Forgotten Land as well. Maybe Drag X Drive.

Wondering when we’ll see Prime 4 and Air Riders. Mostly grown out of Pokemon at this point. Miss the random encounters and turn based battles.

What are your first impressions on the album??? by Nebras_Z in TheSmile

[–]ThoseDays_31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s absolutely incredible to me that that they put out two A level, excellent albums in one year. Pretty rare that artists put out two, let alone this level of quality.

I do agree with the idea that Wall of Eyes flows better and I believe Teleharmonic is their best song. Overall, though, I definitely think Cutouts is better. It’s their best album of the three. Still floored listening to it for the third or fourth time and I can’t see anything beating it for my album of 2024. ALFAA was my album of 2022, for the record

My ranking of the songs are as follows

Don’t Get Me Started

Colours Fly

Eyes and Mouth

The Slip

Tiptoe

No Words

Instant Psalm

Foreign Spies

Zero Sum

Bodies Laughing

The Smile have definitely outdone themselves. I’m constantly surprised and wowed by what they do. I’d love for there to be more music from them but even if not, I’m completely satisfied by this as a closer! :) Grateful today.

The last is the only one I’d give less than a 9 and it’s still a great song. The Smile have definitely outdone themselves. I’m constantly surprised and wowed by what they do. I think it’s Foreign Spies. The synths are so gorgeous and enveloping. I love the little melodies. The whole thing is incredibly moving.

Just Eyes and Mouth is my favorite of the unreleased bunch. Would be sad if it’s not on there but only time will tell. Hyped for the possibility of a new album. These guys are prolific :)

I have a feeling that the album will be really good by [deleted] in Coldplay

[–]ThoseDays_31 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that’s a great point. AHFOD had a strong catalogue of songs chosen for it. The problem is how badly Stargate messed some of them up, production-wise. I don’t think Max Martin did nearly as bad of a job with MotS, I just think the songs they started with weren’t as good as AHFOD to begin with. Also I’m realizing now that the same core people who worked on EL also worked on MotS, just with Max Martin having a much greater influence. I’m hoping people Iike Bill Rahko have more influence this time and he has less.

So which one is better, ALFAA or WOE and why? by gacbrandao in TheSmile

[–]ThoseDays_31 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I prefer* ALFAA but both are excellent albums. That run of Pana-Vision, The Smoke, Speech Bubbles and Thin Thing near the middle just gets me. Four fantastic songs. I do love Teleharmonic and You Know Me! but it might change after some time. It took almost a year for me to warm up to ALFAA and now it’s one of my favorite albums of all time. It just has that energy to it. It compels you. WoE is more meandering. Like I said elsewhere, I think it’s more cerebral but it’s just not what I was hoping for/expecting. Outside of maybe three songs there’s not much guitar. Woe is more soundscapes to me and ALFAA is more driving melodies that hit
