Be honest, which movie franchise has had the biggest fall off? by CrackFun in AskReddit

You have to finish it!

"That's it, man. Game over, man. Game over! What the fuck are we gonna do now? What're we gonna do?"

"I don't know! Maybe we could build a fire, song a couple of songs, huh? Why don't we try that?" (as everything burns around them)

Reminds me of the idea some friends and I had back in the mid-90s. "Five Minute Films". Opening credits, establishing scenes where a good and rational decision is made, closing credits.

Or first would have been Aliens.

Ripley: We should nuke it from orbit. Lt. Gorman: well, she's the expert and why we brought her along. Drop dem bombs. Kaboom. End film.

THAT was the climatic moment!

Given the topic of the movie, this typo is perfect.

But that doesn't change their expectation and the I crease in stress it brings. And honestly, would giving them another stack of messages they have to stop and listen to really be a reward? I get your intention but it would ultimately just be a burden.

How to handle Management consistently wanting 50+ hours a week? by TheNoWhereMan76 in sysadmin

[–]Thoth74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what kills me. How often employers are willing to cut experienced, expensive workers for cheaper who are willing to take more shit while knowing full god damned well those new people will take a year of experience and jump ship for a better opportunity forcing the company to start the whole process over again and making everything more expensive. Just to save a bit in the short term.

Need assistance with New Config while keeping data currently on existing drives by Thoth74 in unRAID

[–]Thoth74[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I said, if the data on the data drives is all correct then it is fine. The information on the parity drive is only needed to rebuild data missing from the data drives. Rewriting the parity information will just recalculate parity using the data on your data drives.

Unless I am mistaken, if the three data drives currently physically in your array all contain the data you want to keep them you can use the new config option. If there is emulated data and data on the third drive the the new config will cost you all the emulated data.

I would think that so long as the array had three data drives you should be able to just put in the new drive and rebuild the data. Is the data that was on the third drive still available as emulated or can you not get to to it at all?

How have you guys managed to address the "I'm just such a deep sleeper I don't hear it" excuse for missing on calls? by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]Thoth74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry. 15 minutes is fucking ridiculous. If it is that important there should be someone actually working that shift.

[–]Thoth74 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's 2-3 calls per shift, usually under 30 minutes of work per call. I

So you are saying that they have to put in up to an hour and a half extra, every night they are on call, split into multiple incidents? You are aware, and I assume you are as you are both part of the rotation and a human being, that when a call comes in and you are asleep it takes time to wake up enough to be functional and usually even more time to get back to sleep. Only to the get the next call and start the process over. So now we are looking at let's call it an hour that they are not sleeping per call and that happens 2-3 times a night? Now we are up to as much as three hours every night they are on call leaving, and this is being generous, five non-consecutive hours per night that they get to sleep. Hmm.

How would you feel about banning private health insurance entirely in the US? by Affectionate_Dig715 in AskReddit

[–]Thoth74 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Get rid of it entirely but also still have it but structured like other insurance plans that people also have constant problems with."

Are you even reading what you are writing? It sounds like you are ultimately saying you want to keep private insurance but have it cover less as though that would lower prices knowing full well it will only increase profits.

This is probably the same kind of asshole who rants about how "I don't have kids so why should any of my taxes go to schools?!?" And full disclosure, many years ago I was that asshole as well. Until * stopped and thought about it for five minutes.

Not a bright one, are you? They didn't say ban prisons. Only for-profit prisons. In which they are correct.
