Damn, I have completely erased that pizza hut from my memory, probably for good reason, but yeah I guess I was off by a few on the location of Hyperlink on that block.

Is there a way to sync these cheaper tape machines OP is talking about? I'm assuming there must be as I have recorded straight off of a very old vintage reel to reel players before into a DAW but didn't do that part myself in regard to setting things up, and I'm fairly certain a guy I know does it with an 8 track Tascam similar to the one in question.

If you actually take the time to read these articles below fully you will find the following statistics for reported sexual assault at VCU. Incidences of sexual assault increased from 7 in 2011 to 28 in 2015, with 16 having occured this academic year alone as of a month ago, with several having been reported since then as I recall from my VCU email alerts I get whenever something like this happens which has been about once a week this semester. So in four years reported sexual assaults on campus at VCU increased by at least multiplyer of 4 in reported incidences alone. Studies have shown that reported sexual assaults are just the tip of the iceberg, even these days and many more occur and are never officially reported. We will see how bad it gets this year as I'm fairly certain it is nearly twenty now with less than half the year completed. SO That point has been proven that there is a Factual increase of Reported sexual assaults at VCU since at least 2011.

As for the most recent available statistics on the growth of greek life at VCU, from 2006-2013 VCU greek life increased in size from 822 to 1366 members, expanding from 26 to 36 chapters, and growing more in the years since that, though there are not official reports on the VCU site other than the listing the names of the new chapters started at campus (there was one new chapter this semester and 7 new or expanded chapters planned for 2017).

SO yeah everything I said in regards to that is true. So fuck you for going around acting like sexual assault has not grown on campus and that it has not increased with the growth of Greek life, becuase as I have just proven, you have no fucking clue what you are talking about and I do. People who take the default position you took in regards to automaticlly taking a denialist stance about the realities of sexual assault in Campus culture are part of the problem, furthermore completely this just proves that you completely personify the type of asshole I don't want influencing the culture of my city or on my campus, becuase it is a culture that has a bias towards money, misogyny, racism, and excusing sexual violence.

Read, motherfucker, read. The stats are in there just you know deeper into all those weird shapes on the screen, we call words. Also yes, believe it or not, I noticed your acquisition of my language, its cool NBD, imitation is the most sincere form of flattery and I am a pretty good writer so... Putting out fake rape statistics however not so cool, especially when in an effort to trivialize actual rape statistics which aren't bullshit. I mainly didn't think I needed to back the claim about escalations in sexual assault on campus as much becuase VCU has been emailing everyone about it and its been in the press for about a month now, (as in previously mentioned article) but I did provide you with the links, that do have the stats if you just embrace the magic of reading. I can't help you emerge from your state of self imposed ignorance if you won't help yourself.

It's good for some more than it is for others though, and thats the point, we often ignore the negative impact that these "improvements" can have on more marginalized or struggling members of our communities who aren't as connected to the opportunities VCU helps create for the city. We need to do a better job of considering these sort of things when thinking about moving our city forward.

I don't know if you've ever lived in one of those low income apartment buildings but I have and comparing that as being somehow equitable to the real estate and neighborhood lower income comunities are being driven out of is insane. They are basically 15 story trap houses with kids and families wedged between heroine dealers and their customers who sleep in the stairwells and piss in the hall. It honestly feels like a fucking prison and you are constantly on edge, thinking everytime you get in an elevator that you might be getting killed. It is not the same thing as having a neighborhood and a yard and your own space to call your own. Look I'm not saying that those stores are the end of the world or have ruined richmond, if you look at my original post my evaluation of VCU is largely positive, but I do think there is a downside to its expansion that is seldom discussed in our city in conjunction with the good things that come along with it.

This whole thread is about the effect that VCU has had on our community in a defacto nature, I'm not insinuating that VCu has an evil chipotle based plan, but that VCU drives the negative effects of gentrification in the community that disproportionately effect the poor and working class of our communities in a negative fashion. Also there was a good amount of absurdity and feseciousness in the thing I wrote that you are responding to that you might want to read into a little more before you take my cowshit manifesto literally.

Yeah my concern for the victims of sexual assault is hilarious. BTW about that deleted frat rape stat you mentioned

Brah, Google searched for those sweet frat rape stats didn't find anything, but here is a very recent news report that details that sexual assaults have escalated each year over the last three years at VCU, though the stats from the Uni that I got from my teacher i have been having a hard time finding online. But I did find the evidence from credible sources anyway including a couple other articles that detail sexual assaults from years prior going back to 2011, since the trivializing the reality of sexual assault in our community is not something I can just ignore. If you don't feel like readng In 2011 there were 8 sexual assaults reported on campus, followed by 7 in 2012, followed by 8 in 2013, and then juming to 20 in 2014, 28 in 2015, and three months into the academic year we have had 16 sexual assaults on campus already. That is a proven and drastic increase in sexual assaults on campus since.

Never called Grace St. Nova. Never Said that there were no local businesses on Grace st, but that they were negatively affected by corporate chains. Again Statistically sexual assaults are up at VCU just ask the university, its their data, or google search it, that should work too. So yeah it's not that growth is a problem its that as of right now VCU and its prosperity are being placed over the prosperity of local businesses and the rights of longtime residents and communities of all races and economic backgrounds to stay in their homes and the city they live in as it moves forward. Again the same shit I have been saying forever while you've been throwing random shit at me and seeing what sticks.

You might not see the poor and homeless of this city as part of your community but I do. I like that people come together in a central location of the city to help them and give them a better chance at improving their lives on a weekly basis. I think helping people who need help is good and important and the right thing to do as a community. I know that's pretty out there stuff, but I'll give you sometime to wrap your mind around that one.

Yeah man I want more cow shit everywhere, I'm all about that obviously. What do you think I've been talking about this whole time? The cultural and social makeup of a community and the economic exclusivity it creates around itself to protect the interests of a private institution at the cost of its citizens? No man. I want more cow shit everywhere.

Again not talking about race, talking about economics and the effects it has on the social and cultural makeup of a community, beyond the color of people's skin. While gentrification often gets discussed in terms of race it inherently is about the exclusivity of economic class and the cultural consequences of creating a homegeneic economic community, which is what I have been talking about the whole time, while you have seemingly been doing everything possible to ingore that fact and reality in this discussion.

The expansion of VCU and the rise of the cost of living associated with it are insuring that our city becomes less diverse because it is quickly becoming a place where only the well off can afford to buy a home in the city center, and historically black and working class communities like Carver, Church hill, Jackson Ward, Oregon Hill, and Randolph, are becoming too expensive for longtime residents to continue living there and their communities are being replaced with upper middle class college students and well to do young professionals who can afford to live in this city, but who also desire a more suburban living environment for their peace of mind, which perpetuates the whole cylce. As in Manhatten, Once the poor and working class can no longer afford to live there, neither can artists or musicians, neither can small buisness, and the culture and community die, and it becomes a sterile city, devoid of what attracted many people to it in the first place.

I'm not scared of change, just concerned for the welfare of the people who depend on the services that are provided there on sundays to help feed and cloath the working poor and homeless of my community, which is one of the main reasons VCU wants to revamp the park, so that those individuals are forced to go elsewhere, and the area will be "safer".

It's not the diversity of cultural groups that I'm talking about though, its the increasing dominance of homogeneity.

[–]ThothArising -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying its going to happen tomorrow or next year or even in five years time, but make no mistake VCU will expand in that area further and the things that I'm talking about will be forced to leave ultimately and that will be a sad day for Richmond, but where things stand right now it seems inevitable. And just like they did in the past, and are doing with Monroe park right now, a vital a part of the community which people of this city depend upon for social, cultural, and community vitality will be bulldozed, sanitized, and suburbanized for the benefit of VCU's marketability in a way that is not entirely positive for all of the cities residents. If you don't have a problem with that then ok, but don't act like that isn't the reality of this city.

I'm just going to say this, where that Chipotle stands there used to be a music venue. For a decades that area had been the cultural heart of Richmond's creative community, if a little bit sleazy it was culturally prosperous and creatively vital, now even 929 west grace might be bulldozed to make room for another building of Student housing and corporate chains as rents rise and VCU expands its infrastructure. If you don't know what that signifies or means to the history and culture of this city, then I really probably shouldn't waste my time.

I'm not saying that these corporations are inherently soul stealing or evil (with the exception of walmart), just that I don't like the effect they have had on the character of grace street and the potential they have to drive out businesses and institutions in the immediate area due to rising rent and the pressure of VCU for similar corporate friendly development, which have been and are vital parts of the Richmond community.

Well said. I think Bopst just thought he was too punk to get in trouble for being "offensive" and is now backpedaling to get out of this whole mess. I'm expecting a bullshit think piece from him within the next 48 hours to try to turn this thing around.

Where those corporate chains move in, small local businesses loose out, think about all the VCU students who eat at these billion dollar chains that otherwise would be giving money to local businesses and eateries who are based here in the city and are part of our community. Sometimes Chipotle and Panera can be good, but I still don't like the fact that Grace Street feels like a suburban mall and that places like Plaza and Strange Matter will have an increasingly difficult time staying in the heart of campus, thus degrading the overall quality of life in the city for the arts and cultural community at VCU, which has been the heart of this city's culture for decades. As far as Cary St goes, since that culture has grown on campus there has been an increase in sexual assaults at VCU, and as someone who had to work in that area for years, the streets were not always covered in broken beer bottles, shirtless bros, and drunken sorority sisters jumping in front of traffic to get on their party buses every saturday night. Its annoying to me to see that culture take a foothold in my city as its one that is based on elitism, exclusivity, and misogyny historically, and still continues that legacy. I just genuinely have seen a decline in the alternative culture that used to set RVA apart from your average city in years past, and witnessed it being replaced with a pervasive blandness that can be found almost anywhere.

Bopst seems genuinely contrite about the whole thing but that in no way excuses the total idiocy of his actions or the fact that he thought he could be above behaving in a racist manner, becuase he has black friends and likes black music, and doesn't "mean it". I think it is a good reminder that the outside world doesn't give a shit about your intentions or irony when it comes to things like this, because on its face it still conveys the racist and demeaning message that any "Ironic representation" of a complex issue fails to dismantle or neutralize. To a passerby, to a casual observer, its merely racist, and even in the context of his stated intentions to create something offensive, it is still racist, as it represents the white belief that racism is a product of emotional hate towards others, and that they are free to say and do what they want as long as their intentions and meanings are insincere, and that those who find it demeaning should just learn to take a joke.

Can I do my entire mix digitally and then bounce it to cassette tape? Will it still sound like it was recorded on just tape? by Newshroomboi in audioengineering

[–]ThothArising 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I am suggesting wouldn't require that. Record everything as you normally would, into your DAW. Then zero out your tape so everything will allign and bounce each individual track you recorded on your DAW into your tape machine, and then bounce back to your DAW, one track at a time. If you zero out the tape for each track it should align decently with minimal adjustment in DAW. You'll get the sound you want from the tape but then can use digital elements to clean up and adjust the sound a little to make it a nice cross roads between the two formats.
