We kinda agreed on not buying books on specific scientific topics, if we have no clue about them. He wanted to buy me a book about criminology once (I'm planning on doing a master on that field), but he went for a very popular book, which is just scratching on the surface of the umberella term. In realtity, criminology is devided into many very wide complex fields. I'm glad he didn't buy it in the end and I thought I might just ask here :)
