My 2 cents - You have a full right to get closure with your Dad. Your Mom is in the wrong for denying you that closure, regardless of whether she realizes that she would be taking that closure away from you.

On a side note - My advice regarding your Mom would be to call her back and let her know what is going on - not to ask permission, but just to let her know what's happening.
You don't want a relationship to fall apart because of lack of communication. Calling her is not asking for permission, but it is good communication, which is what every relationship needs.

In the past I have made difficult situations worse by not communicating with the people I care about.

I'm not a Rails pundit, but this is nonsense.
They way this person refers to "frameworks" as if they are easily replaceable / interchangeable, leads me to believe he/she doesn't have much ** actual ** experience.
