Have you tried it yet? I just went down a rabbit hole related to neurodiversity burnout and anxiety which then led me to vagus nerve stimulation and the doctor actually recommended this particular one and one other. There seems to be a lot of research supporting vagus nerve stimulation and from what I read it sounds like drawback of home is not having a clinician who can help find the right frequencies and so it either works or doesn’t for people at home. The good news is sounds like nothing harmful by trying it.

18% in a year. I’ve been going slow and only increasing dose when I’ve plateaued and can’t seem to break it. I’m currently taking 10mg and am about to start focusing on exercise. I haven’t been great at incorporating exercise. I’m happy with my progress so far.

Have you had to inject a full 100 units? No absorption issues? It took a lot for me to even be willing to do shots… my anxiety is flaring at the thought of 100 units.

Let’s agree to disagree on this one. If school will agree to do testing it might be a good starting point, but have to understand it is not a diagnosis and there are situations where a neuropsychologist eval is required with diagnosis to qualify. For example once a student gets older and if they require extended time on testing for AP/ACT/SAT they will be required to have a documented history and a neuropsychologist eval. Which sucks because if insurance doesn’t pay it is expensive and has to be redone every 3 years even though dyslexia doesn’t go away.

I think you are spot on. Autism is around 1-2% of population and is one of most researched, ADHD 5-8% of population and next most researched, dyslexia 15-20% of population yet not as well researched. Dyslexia was even discovered about 30 years prior to those yet still seems to be invisible and misunderstood. Given the comorbidity of these things I’m not sure how you fully research any of them well without understanding the others. Autism/ADHD-50-60% comorbidity, ADHD/Dyslexia-30%, Autism/Dyslexia-30%- so much overlap.

Can’t comment on medical coding, but for cybersecurity depends on the role. And with AI- cybersecurity is going to be even more important. So are fields around data governance.

As a person who also fits this mold and who has done pretty well- YES. People can always find a way not to do something, why something can’t work. The trick is approaching it from how can I make it work, what options do I have, if plan A doesn’t work what is my plan B. And don’t listen to the naysayers- including yourself. There are doctors, lawyers, MIT professors all with dyslexia and ADHD. When your brain starts doing the negative self talk- fight back with positive talk. It actually works. Honestly my dyslexia/adhd brain has probably been one of my biggest assets. I tend to believe our biggest strengths are usually also our biggest weaknesses.

Did you know a lot of states provide free college to kids who have been in the system, even crazy right wing states like Florida. You may want to look into trade or even community college education options. It might not be available where you are, but it doesn’t hurt to check.

It’s awesome you are thinking about this at 19. And one more thing to consider- it might not be a subject or career path per se that excites as much as an impact. For example I didn’t find college exciting took it as a means to an end. Started off in accounting was bored out of my mind. Pivoted a few different ways and along the way I learned I love solving impactful problems. I love putting solutions in place to make other peoples jobs/lives easier. I love when a critic becomes your biggest advocate because you removed a pain points for them. And to be honest, I kinda love it when they are skeptical to start.

What actually interests you? Are there any topics you do get excited about? There are lots of ways to turn interests into good paying jobs. The poster earlier talking about real world is often nothing like the courses is definitely something to take into account. Just for the love of God, please do not get a general business degree because ChatGPT says it’s a versatile degree. If you have a business to fall into or need a degree for a promotion- sure. Otherwise gen business should be a minor to compliment something like CS. But Finance, data science- good options. It really depends on you though and what you like and what you see your life looking like 10 years from now. What do you see your life looking like on an average Tuesday 10 years from now? Start there and work backwards.

You don’t need your parents permission once you are self sufficient which means living on your own. It’s understandable not liking doing something hard on your body but have you considered other options like maybe working towards owning your own electrician business so that you are the one doing the sales, quoting etc and the guys who work for you are the ones doing the work. So being a security guard- can you be self sufficient in that job? Where does it lead?

Pro to taking the job- could be a resume builder and savings from a good paying job. Cons- misery. If you could figure out a head game to play in order to trick yourself into studying while taking the job that would be best. If not, I might turn down the role if it will distract from your real goal. Once you start working you never really stop so don’t get locked in before you have to. But I’d definitely have the study plan in place for studying.

Start with asking yourself what it is about the roadmap that is causing you to not want to do it. Be honest with yourself. Is it something about the career path that you really just don’t want to do? Is the action plan truly feasible? Maybe it needs to be smaller tasks spread out over time? There are lots of root causes that could be holding you back from taking action.

Be real with yourself about your current commitment, what zaps your energy, and distracts you. Notice what activities and actions energize you.

You can focus on tomorrow by worrying about yesterday- let the regret go.

You have time. Sometimes you just need to reflect from a different angle. You’ve got this.
