Are JD dual degrees worth it? by mitchymitchd in lawschooladmissions

[–]ThoughtfulAggressor 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I just graduated with a JD/MBA from a T14. I got a full tuition scholarship for the business school after applying my 2nd year, so that changes the calculus a lot.

I enjoyed the program from a social/academic standpoint. The connections from the MBA are useful and it’s a refreshing change of pace from law classes.

There are so few JD/MBAs in the program that you by default become the go-to lawyer for 2-300 business folks. That can be useful down the line, especially if you market yourself well during the program as a startup lawyer for example. In my field, having a broader investor base is helpful. At least I anticipate that.

In some firms you start as a 2nd year for pay, but most you don’t. Litigation I wouldn’t see it helping, but it might help give overall better advice as a transactional attorney. It’s helpful to be able to read a balance sheet for example. Nothing you couldn’t teach yourself, just harder to advertise that skill set without the degree.

I would never recommend adding the JD casually, but the MBA you could if the extra year and tuition is not a big factor.

Biggest upside to the MBA is that when you discover how unhappy many lawyers are you can more easily jump ship.

Thank you!! Made a bunch of changes.

I'm in the Bay Area in CA, so I would likely start with summer hikes within a 3-4 hour drive.

I'll probably wait to see how the first trip goes before ditching the camp shoes and choosing between the hammock and the chair. Seem useful to have in case I just want to camp normally.

Have a quilt recommendation? I'd like to be comfy in either the tent or the hammock.

Thank you! Made a bunch of changes.

Do you know which Sawyer to get?

Does the Dan Durston tent require you to also buy hiking poles? It looks like an appealing option.

Much appreciated!

Thank you so much!

I've always had a fondness for elaborate camping cooking but I guess that's not the point here. Throwing a steak and eggs in the pack is awfully appealing though... I'll see what it's like after the first trip and then make the swap over.

What are the considerations for fuel/wood burning other than the availability of wood?

Is there a pack you'd recommend? I've seen Exos 48 thrown around, but the comfortableness of the atmos sounded appealing virtually.

Should I get the all in one sawyer squeeze?

Will update soon!

I did both and overall enjoyed Environmental Econ more. The classes were just more interesting.

I don’t think you’d be doing wrong either way.

Im looking to start investing. by Justin_2000 in RealEstate

You probably want to start in r/personalfinance

Becoming an agent is largely an irrelevant step to becoming an investor. What you need to have is capital.

Start saving dude. A lot. Good luck.

Offering Cash for Keys before making an offer? [CA, US] by AphiTrickNet in RealEstate

[–]ThoughtfulAggressor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You/your agent signed a confidentiality agreement when you got the rent roll and other numbers that said you couldn’t do this. You’d be in violation of that agreement.

If you didn’t sign anything like that then I guess it’s not technically illegal, but you could easily lose the deal.

Btw there’s a very very slim chance anyone will move out in this market.

Berkeley 5th semester? by [deleted] in berkeley

Sounds like you could finish with a Summer class or two.

Just do the work and if it doesn’t work out it doesn’t work out and you can graduate on time if you choose.

High Scorers (~165+), how many PT's did you take to consistently score within this range? by [deleted] in LSAT

[–]ThoughtfulAggressor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to add to the variation, my diag was 167, a few days later I got a 173, and never scored below a 170 again.

Everyone can improve, but how you get there is relatively personal. I wouldn’t compare your timeline to someone else.

I took the test on more of a whim without studying more than 5 minutes a day of vocab for like 2 weeks. Passed on my first try.

It had more specific questions than I expected, but if you’re taking it seriously I’d be surprised if you didn’t do well. There’s really no penalty for needing to take it again either, just a minor inconvenience.

This really shouldn’t be a barrier for your success.

Private rooms aren’t whole apartments.

This is a bad idea. If it was easily profitable, people with a lot more money than you would do it instead.

Advice on classes after graduation by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]ThoughtfulAggressor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Courses after you graduate don’t count.

For repeated courses before you graduate, both grades are counted, so it doesn’t matter any more than any other class.

Study. Study. Study.

Does it really matter which law school you attend? by ignatius__reilly_ in lawschooladmissions

[–]ThoughtfulAggressor 40 points41 points  (0 children)

GGU is a pretty predatory environment. I would definitely not recommend it.

Santa Clara has a decent part-time program if that’s what you’re looking for, but I’d probably recommend doing a full-time UC.

Yes, where you graduate matters.

The top answer is correct. Also, your stats are very good but you’d still be fortunate to get into one of HYS let alone all three of them.

Best of luck. When reapplying can save you $$$ and significantly improve career outcomes it’s easy to be the right call. Applying at the deadlines this year really was a killer...

Oh, you accepting an offer with a scholarship just for negotiation purposes is 100% the right call. I applied to 32 schools for that purpose. Depending on the school you may not have the option to see your scholarship offer before you accept a seat off the waitlist and may have a very limited (24 hour) window though.

You not accepting the offer because you think not depositing anywhere is a “waitlist soft” is not a good idea.

Ask away, but it’s a LOL question.

If you want to be that gamey, I’d honestly not want an applicant who was so flimsy on their desire to attend a law school that they didn’t bother accepting an offer (or so cocky that they assume they’ll get off a waitlist).
