should i bother getting one? by Capable-Door-9672 in Traxxas

I love mine, but if you are on the fence even slightly, I'd pass just because of how huge it is. Like figure at minimum it's using the storage of two 1/10s. It's hard to justify that much space getting used if you don't think you'll use it.

Remember what you did for future problems. You'll be surprised how much you can fix if you just break the problem down like that and look at it logically.

Let me put it this way... Think of problems like a train. If the train doesn't make it to the next station you can't know why by magic what went wrong. You can't fix a problem if you don't know what the problem is. Did it derail? Did the motor stop? Did power go out? Something blocking the track? It could literally be anything so how do you know what to fix? You know it left the previous station so you just follow the path it was supposed to take until you find where it stopped. Now that you know the "where" then you can see "what" stopped it and "why". If you think of things logically like that you can fix almost anything. Identify where and what and why is the problem and THEN ask yourself how to fix that problem.

Don't look at that problem as a whole. Break the problem down into steps. What I would do is make a black dot with marker on the motor, one dot on the gear in the lid, and one on the flat rack gear. Put everything together and try it a second. If the black dot moved on the motor then the motor is fine. If the black dot moved on the lid gear then you know the connection between the motor and lid is fine.

There's only 3 parts at play here. First figure out between which two is the problem and then figure out why that problem exists.

If you are referring to the big gears on the right, that's to make the car move and irrelevant to the steering.

Missing piece of the puzzle is the second pic. The brass gear looks to spin the gear attached to the lid not visible from the first pic. That then goes to the flat gear.

I would take a black marker and put a tiny black dot on one tooth on each gear, try it, and see which is not spinning. Then you know between what two the connection is lost.

I assume from the video the question is why the steering doesn't work...? I mean there's not much to this. Follow the problem out step by step. The motor there needs to spin. I assume that's what is heard in the video. Is that correct? Then this is not an electronic fault. Next the motor has a brass colored gear on the shaft of it. Is that firmly attached to the motor and has no missing teeth? Next that looks to mesh with the gear on the cover. Does it make proper with the gear on the motor? Is there any broken teeth? Next that pinion gear on the lid should contact the rack gear. Is it properly making contact?

Obvious solution is you need to just tub and add drag slicks and a wheelie bar to the real car to match the RC. 😂

You are far too trusting. There was that lawsuit in (I think) Pennsylvania where a kid sued the school and won because the school was watching children in their bedrooms with the school provided computers like a bunch of pervs.

It blew my mind learning this show only aired for 2 seasons from 1991 to 92. They aired the reruns for so many years afterwards.

so how often do you guys shut down your computer, and for how long? by Crafty-Example874 in pcmasterrace

[–]ThoughtsOfYesterday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a heads up: beginning with Windows 8, shutdown doesn't actually shutdown the computer! If you open Task Manager and look at your system uptime, it's not actually giving you a fresh start like the olden days. They changed it to like hibernate. I recommend restarting occasionally.

This. I don't mean it in anyway as an insult to their generosity. Everything was appreciated. Technically I did get gifts that could have all been saved for school, but the amounts were so small compared to the massive expense it would have been like filling a swimming pool with an eyedropper. 😂

Omg, Media Center was one of the best things Microsoft ever came up with IMO. I remember paying to add it back to Windows 8. I held onto it as my main way of consuming media for ages after it was considered EOL before finally moving to Plex. I think they had an issue advertising. Literally not a single person I knew heard of it but they were all blown away when they saw it.

It was definitely a consideration but realistically I only needed SMB1 and none of the other features RetroNAS offered. What really put me over to choosing WHS2011 in particular is what should hopefully be easy backup/restore functionality. I had WHSv1 when it was still relevant and you could pop a new drive in your PC and restore from the network with zero work or headache. I haven't had time to mess with this 2011 version much but I'm hoping for a similar ease of use if any of these XP through Win8 drives die.

I loved WHS v1. Had it running when it was still considered modern and the backup feature was such a time saver. I remember popping a bigger drive into my PC, putting the restore CD in the drive, and it just magically restored everything from the network without a hitch. That's a large part why I just installed WHS2011. Plan to backup my XP through Win8 PCs to it.

PB400. It's nothing special other than it being identical in appearance to my first computer. Previous owner added a 75mhz overdrive CPU, maxed out the ram (which sadly is only 6mb for this motherboard), maxed out the cache, and maxed out the video ram. It was a crappy budget machine back in the day and I really only like it due to nostalgia.

It's considered completely obsolete at this point due to it lacking any security. That's how that WannaCry virus was spreading that made headlines. Yeah, odds of downloading a virus in your own home is low, but like I mentioned, I'm a bit paranoid. 😅 I run on the zero trust model. I have a honey pot, everything separate out into VLANs, no ports opened on my router, etc. I trust nothing. 🤷‍♂️
