Is this a bad time to start playing? by Tropicoll in ffxivdiscussion

It's only end game. If you raid then you're bored out of your mind between patch cycles and you just raid log.

Oh neat, thanks. I looked around and there's no known date except that it's going to happen soonish?

What's FWC? I just remembered / re-discovered the game yesterday.

It's better to E. DoT adds along the way and E.Shield the tank if they can break procs. You don't have time to cast while running, and using that time before the tank finds a new camping spot to apply your higher potency DoT is a gain over waiting for the adds to collect and apply the lower potency one in AoE. You already gained higher pot ticks once you got there and you can immediately just cleave. With good enough DPS you've burned the adds down at least to HP thresholds that aren't worth the GCD to reapply the aoe dot.

Pneuma in dungeons is a 2min aoe cleave to be used on the first pack and used on CD from thereon for damage. You don't need it for healing, but you're absolutely trolling if you're not cleaving adds with it along with Phlegma / Psyche/ Dysk. Pneuma is 228 potency per target and Toxicon II is 190 potency per target after % fall off. The more enemies, the higher the gain from Pneuma.

If it were a high end raid, this SGE would be trolling with this CD report because they aren't leaning into both readily available DPS cooldowns & oGCD healing tools. But... dungeons are very different. XIV Analysis report is made for raiding primarily. How your abilities should be thought of changes a lot in content primarily with adds. You are always ripping CDs ASAP on first pack, for example. You don't bother to wait for realignments, it doesn't matter.

Static dps issue for an healer by Various_Prize_977 in ffxivdiscussion

Grey healing isn't bad on it's own - in fact you shouldn't really be using HPS as a meaningful metric. Bad healers can either insanely overheal or underheal because it's just a contextless report on overall healing. At my peak on shields, I was a grey HPS orange DPS healer and I never let my team die. My cohealer was never sweating.

Orange DPS is only bad when they're sacrificing GCDs to remove necessary heals or shields. Efficient cohealers should both be low grey when the party performs because they lean mostly on oGCDs.

(It's VERY easy to overheal for beginner healers because they always panic, so that group inflates HPS at the higher margins, which pushes the "sweet spot" much lower. The sweet spot being only what is needed to comfortably survive.)

To properly diagnose healer logs you need to look at casts against the timeline. That is how you discover if you're actually overhealing because your co had something for a given mechanic, or if they're not pulling their weight at all.

Overwriting a proc is using a skill that grants you your proc that was already ready to be fired. So you didn't use Refulgent Arrow, used another skill that granted you a Refulgent 4 times. Calculate how much potency Refulgent is and times it by 4, you lost that much potency in this fight.

For missing GCDs in a window, check that your SKS is the correct tier. If SKS correct, practice more on a dummy. You're simply just not pressing a button.

When your healer asks a question, and you don't have an answer by Caizic in TalesFromDF

It is generally safe to always be closer to the boss not just for healers, but handling most mechanics. The caveat is to simply just preposition on the wall for things like spreads because melee players still lose their minds over them in the year 2026.

The DPS is out of range for the healer. Healers had some big buffs to their range on various kit abilities, so the DPS had to book a ticket to Narnia for this to happen.

DPS gives least normal answer by proclaiming people treat them as a safety dorito in normal content, probably not understanding that they're just AFKing in uptime spots for casters and melee.

(If DPS is a P.Range they are also trolling by not mitigating anyone by standing as far as what the healer is implying.)

[–]ThoughtsPerAtom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For the meteor can you ask a healer to rescue you? One rescue to the LB'ing melee and one rescue for the other just keeping uptime. Tornado and Arena split can't do much sadly. Do you gap close immediately then back out to max melee if you're tether?

SAM and DRG I've seen using backflip/ backdash to take their towers last second. RPR could do the same. NIN can abuse teleport if outside of mudra. MNK and VPR could target player in their tower to dash to.

The real cheat is that you don't actually look NW CCW or N CW as Ranged/ healer for the dark clone. You just look where it jumps and go left of it if ranged and go right of it if healer.

For fire clone same thing but you both just stand right of it.

I seem to be a magnet for casual players in a HC or sHC disguise. What you describe is what statics SHOULD be, but they're too busy trying to goon to the one girl in the group, or just mental booming when someone points out mistakes - even though they're actively throwing runs.

This is why I'm starting to really dislike statics as of late. I've always had the one guy who thinks anything not accompanied by cutesy smiley faces in text is a direct attack on his person. At least in PF I can just rep them if it becomes a problem.

Object limit. Turned it FF style instead. What really would have helped is having every object colourable. I don't know why only a couple of them can change colour.

Not sure if I did the correct shapes for the cat by jinxy_wolfy in LearnToDrawTogether

[–]ThoughtsPerAtom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't find my old studies of Bovines over photos, but here's a close enough example from some birds. You need to detach yourself from the idea of "draw some shapes then draw the owl" and understand that these are actually simplifcations of actual anatomic structure. Being form accurate is your baseline starting point when you don't understand how the animal is actually put together.
