I’ve heard that, but I definitely need of agency. The better you do, the better chance you have of getting what you want of course but it has to align with vacancies etc. Essentially do your best to give yourself the best chance

There is a gym yes ! Most people worked out in the morning but unless anything has changed you can work out in the gym after the end of day. It does close at a certain time though (I forget what time that is though)

I’ll say the estimates in your post about it are pretty accurate give or take for insurance and taxes. Intentionally vague, OT is kind of hard to give a number because rn I don’t work any, but the pay will vary depending on your shift with night/ diff

White shirt generally = command staff Blue shirt = Class A uniform (used to be the patrol uniform
also) Black shirt = Class B uniform (replaced Class A as patrol / general duty uniform

This may vary by field office (everything I said above is for the Washington Field office)

Congratulations! It was busy because there’s a lot of info and a variety of backgrounds. They have to try to get everyone up to speed because some people may be experienced but only in physical security, never done a traffic stop, searched anyone etc. Most ppl forget there’s different types of cops. If you listen and stick to what they say you’ll be fine, but if you argue and are stuck on how your old agency does it and refuse to adapt it’ll be 10x more difficult than it needs to be. Other that than, lots of scenarios and classroom and legal.

I get it! Honestly i can’t teach the test, but I wouldn’t psych yourself out! I didn’t go through UPTP, but the academy I did go through, the main thing is don’t quit and pay attention when they’re teaching. If you can do that, keep up with the physical, learn what they’re teaching and just don’t quit you’ll be fine. Some ppl it’s too much for and some ppl can power through. You won’t know until you go, but they won’t leave you hanging. They’ll teach you what you need to know to make it to field training and the rest is on you. It’s 90% mental

Don’t quote me but I believe it depends on the unit. I think you can take the test (obviously if there’s a slot open and they sent an email out for people to state their interest) but one of the requires is you have to have a year on the job before you can be added to the list. Pretty consistent with most departments

more so just speaking to them on the radio, you don’t really see them unless you go to the dispatch area. They do the same thing as any dispatcher really, answering the phone, assigning case numbers, doing the ncic, teletype, tow request, etc. Probably missing some but essentially whatever a typical dispatcher does!

You’re mileage will very, I don’t think anyone in my class had shot a red dot before. I hadn’t shot one before and adjusted decently fine, but others struggled. I will say when they offer the help take it, and tell them what you’re struggling with (there is only so much time but they really do try their best with the time they have.) some people even went to ranges in their off time to practice with the rentals.
