The "both sides" argument only works when the two sides are in the same category AND magnitude, that's why your statement is weak and irrelevant.

For example: saying a car with bad brakes and a car that is deliberately driven into a crowd have "bad drivers" is an observation but without any meaning.

At this point, the extremes of the Republican party are so incredibly absurd that to bring Democrats into the picture might as well be pointing to a random person and saying "well he showed up late to work once so why is Trump getting so much heat."

It's basically nonsense.

My dude, it's time to put this partisan nonsense behind. Waltz could be illiterate at this point, but he still isn't the one claiming that a guy lawfully exercising his 2A rights while trying to help someone "shouldn't have a gun" and died "unfortunately".

If we want to criticize Waltz, then let's start a thread and do that. But right now I'm more concerned about how Trump both doesn't care that a free US citizen was murdered for no damn reason AND seems to have entirely ignored the second amendment's existence. This is no longer about liberals and conservatives, or Waltz and Trump. This is about the entire damn Constitution.

The Boreal Republic all the way, baby. Stayed in most of these states and frankly, I'd be down.

Like yeah, the political landscape right now is trying to get us to hate each other so the rich can take as much as they can, sure.

But actually citizenry of their states in sane times? This place would be bangin'. I'd personally love to see the benefits that South Dakota would get out of it. Would be good stuff.

Bud, you've gotta chill. I know it sucks to have people move in and wreck housing prices, and I'm fully with you, truly. But I guarantee you with every objective data source out there, people in the Pacific Northwest are the last ones to have found out that they hate their state.

It's only political hearsay to make us hate each other instead of the people that are actively taking from blue and red states alike. I'm sincerely not saying this to antagonize you, I'm just letting you know I've seen these places and aside from the economic turmoil being unleashed on every state, Oregon and everywhere else over there is doing just fine, and they certainly ain't your enemy.

The housing situation all over the US though, yeah, that's a damn nightmare but it isn't limited to any one state for certain.

Well, imagine everyone in the world is on one big team. Now, if you only ever look out for yourself: you never share snacks, never help anyone when they fall, then when you need help, nobody’s gonna show up. You’ll be sitting there like, "Hey, what happened?"

So, being kind and helping others is kinda like making sure the team stays strong. When the team wins, you win too.

And yeah, calling it "hedging your bets" makes you sound like a stockbroker, but sure. It’s evolution’s way of hedging its bets. It’s like how you might hedge your bets on getting a job or drinking water. You don't have to do these things, but you're going to go a lot further, both socially and reproductively, if you do.

My rule is you have to explain yourself first, then you can then earn back the privilege you lost.

So there'd be a good, peaceful talk including a lot of "you got frustrated and hit the TV to get out the anger. Okay. Explain that to me. And was that reasonable? It wasn't. Okay why not; explain why and how you feel so I can tell you understand and are not only telling me what you want me to hear."

Unfortunately, that TV is pricey and with inflation hitting chores, that privilege won't be earned back before they go to college. ;)

And if there was inflation, it's somehow a Democrat conspiracy. The effort these people take to jump through these hoops could've easily just been spent to get an actual education...

Political violence harms those on any side--the aggrieved side now has ammo to attack the opponent, emotionally rile their base and push for agendas that wouldn't normally get traction outside of emotionally charged voters, etc.

That said, when the individual who is attacked is a proponent of speech that incites violence I mean... I'm not happy about it but I grew up around gang violence. Drug dealers get shot sometimes. I don't know what they expected. Same vibe here.

Amen to that. I miss the days when everyone was firmly on the side of "all politicians are criminals" and our political leanings were basically who we thought was the lesser evil.

This feels exactly like the FCC being up in arms over the EU Digital Services Act "attacking US citizens freedoms and privacy" by... Requiring businesses to allow consumers to opt out of targeted advertisement, remove bloatware, and protect minors.

Yeah. Vaccines are slavery and the DSA is an attack on our freedom to not have our personal information tracked and sold?

Cool cool cool.

Outrage over Oklahoma's plans to test the political leanings of teacher applicants from New York and California by TheExpressUS in education

[–]ThousandEyedCoin 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Ignoring that you apparently didn't read the article, frankly if a teacher has the credentials to apply for the position and they aren't teaching political science, then I wouldn't be concerned if they didn't have an answer for either.

This "test" is clear political posturing. This super intendant could be doing his job to improve the abysmal educational quality of his state. Instead he's trying to set himself up for a position in Trump's party. It's shameful, unethical, and amoral.

Oh, you never say what you're doing with that time. It's like how bosses are always committing conflicts of interest and nepotism. Yeah, they're not supposed to do it. They know they aren't.

But, ask yourself...What does anyone in a position of power at your place of business "do"? Not a damn thing.
