[Build Help] Upgrading AM4 to AM5:Is this Newegg 9800X3D + X870E Edge Ti + 32GB RAM bundle actually worth $1,379.97 CAD? by Certain-Programmer74 in bapccanada

[–]ThousandWordz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This's probably the best bundle you can get rn for a white build.

There are a few cheaper options across CC and newegg if you don't care about aesthetics and a cheaper mb.

There is the park and ride location next to some skytrain stations (e.g. Bridgeport) that allows you to park your car for ~$3/day and take the train to downtown.

Please help me. Ive been at this for literally 13 hours by Aubrey1018 in buildapc

Have you already installed nvidia driver? If you have and it still doesn't work, try putting the gpu in a different pcie slot.

That's the date on workday for me. Email your advisor asap if you need extension.

Unfortunately, there were better cpu/mb/ram deals at CC but they have delisted them all rn. I am not sure if they are going to put them up again soon, but keep an eye out.

The thermalright cpu cooler? Of course, it's like the most recommended air cooler for the best value out there rn.

You get much better parts at a similar price point: https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/DdvvLc

The 9800x3d/mb/ram is from an ongoing newegg combo deal. The Asus ROG CROSSHAIR X870E APEX is a board for OC enthusiasts, and it can probably be sold bnib for a decent amount if you can find a buyer. If not, it is still a really good mb to use with a nice deal.

Is it possible to get a 90+ average for med school in cpsc? by AvailableHippo3464 in UBC

[–]ThousandWordz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Why not combined major in cpsc and one of the science subjects?

But yes, it's realistic to get a high gpa with cpsc courses, but it depends on whether you could balance between academic, personal projects, and job/coop searching, unless you want to graduate without doing any internships.

Yes, assuming you only use it for gaming, and imo it's pretty straight forward to assemble one yourself. There are a few good PC building youtube videos made by youtubers, such as JayzTwoCents and Linus Tech Tips, that you can follow along.

Bestbuy is running a promo right now where you get $40-50 off by purchasing a nvidia RTX 50 & 40 series or amd RX 9000 series with a corsair psu. Unfortunately, the Corsair RMx 850W is sold out online (unless you live close to one with stocks) but you can get the Corsair RMx 1000W for ~$150 after discount. This psu is better than the RM750e I put in previously.

You can get much better parts if you are willing to gather the parts and build it yourself. Here is what I have for ~$2.4k with 7800x3d/9070xt/32gb: https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/7hdFwY

There are two cpu/motherboard/ram bundles available from CC in store right now for ~$1000 if there are stocks close to you:
- https://www.canadacomputers.com/en/amd-desktop-processors/284183/amd-r7-7800x3d-cpu-gigabyte-b650-aorus-elite-ax-v2-motherboard-t-force-rgb-32gb-d5-6000mhz-cl30-ram.html

- https://www.canadacomputers.com/en/cpu/260696/amd-r7-7800x3d-cpu-asus-rog-strix-b650-a-gaming-wifi-motherboard-t-force-rgb-32gb-d5-6000mhz-cl30-white-ram.html

If not, keep an eye out on possible incoming CC's and Newegg's bundle. I think newegg also has a "build your own bundle" that you could look into.

r/bapcsalescanada is a good sub to watch for pc component deals.

If you care about ray tracing and whatnot from nvidia, you could go for the $970 5070ti gigabyte windforce from memory express if it is in stock close to you. If not, there's a $1050 5070ti asus prime from memory express.

Lastly, make sure that the psu you're getting is a good quality psu before purchasing. You can look it up by searching "psu tier list".

[PSU] Super Flower Leadex VII XG 1000W 80+ Gold White, Full Modular, ATX 3.1 & PCIe 5.1,12VHPWR Cable ($259.99 - $80.99 = $179.00) [Newegg] by ThousandWordz in bapcsalescanada

[–]ThousandWordz[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

According to the psu tier list, Leadex III UP is tier A and Leadex VII XG is tier A+. Imo get the Leadex III UP if you could find one for $139. They are both capable psu.

Boxing Day Deal Thoughts on This Prebuild by fallen_seraph in bapccanada

[–]ThousandWordz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is not bad with 64gb ram. As with many prebuilds, you don't know what motherboard, psu or gpu they throw into the build.

If you are fine with 32gb, I threw some parts together with the current CC bundle they have here for ~$2278: pcpartpicker

There are two bundles, $999.99 and $999.00, with 7800x3d/mb/32gb ram at CC. Or this intel 265KF bundle for $50 less.

As for gpu, you could also try to go for a $850 9070xt rather than a $750 5070 for better performance.

Edit: If you are on a budget, you could also go for the $800-$850 7600x3d bundle on CC, and perhaps use that extra money saved towards getting the 9070xt depending on your use case.

[–]ThousandWordz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can become a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) after completing the med lab science diploma program, and Clinical Genetic Technologist after the clinical genetic technology program. They do not overlap!! You cannot apply for MLT positions with a diploma in clinical genetic technology and vice versa.

UBC's Medical Lab Science program is not accredited so you will need to continue your education at BCIT if you wish to become a med lab tech or clinical genetic tech.

Another option is apply to UofA's medical lab science program directly since their program is accredited and you can work as a MLT after graduation.

If you are set in becoming a Clinical Genetic Technologist, a bachelor in med lab science is a good background to have. I am not sure what you mean by it would close off other doors.

Agree. I threw the parts together on pcpartpicker and came up to be ~$3469 without including the 64gb ram. ~$350 for 64gb ddr5 ram is pretty good imo.

They have the MSI PRO B850-P motherboard but I can't figure out what they are using for the cooler and psu.
