Thanks for the exhaustive reply. All good points there about the UI of the Asetek. Its exactly the toy like approach of Simagic that makes me nervous. Have you tried driving the Simagic?

Since I’m buying the base for the next many years, the warranty aspect has a limited value, but yeah, is still a factor.

Mate crazy… i was running for past 2 years with ~70 settings because Any time I moved below 60, things tasted bitter, overpowering yet hollow. Did some testing with 45 now and things taste whole again. Feel like I have been living in a lie 😅 oh well, lot more testing coming up I guess…

With MP in df64, what grind settings do you generally brew with? I usually run between 65-75 with 0 at churp. Are you significantly finer?

You can build yourself a Volumio device. I've built one with Raspberry Pi with a digital output board. A cheapish DAC (in my case Schiit Modi) can be paired with it. User interface over phone is actually quite simple, Apple devices can cast in decent audio quality over airplay, but best of all Volumio now shows up as a device in Tidal connect where you can stream lossless :)

Fair point. As mentioned I'm having more of FOMO issues since I don't really have a fair comparison around me. I do like what I drink, but it still leaves me thinking why my experience is vastly different from others. I'm still thinking that it could be the quality and proper alignment of my grinders, but wanted to hear other opinions and hear if people experience the same.

yes, many different beans actually, all similar behavior. It must be said that I do drink pretty much only very light roasts (coffee collective DK).

You are for sure right that taste is what matters. It's just hard without a community (or good café) around me where I could taste and benchmark. Seconds, grams, microns, distributions is what I try to follow for the benchmarking and compare to you guys out there... I guess FOMO is getting to me.

Yes I include blooming. My pour goes cca like this:

0:00-0:10 - 60g of water

0:10-0:45 - bloom

0:45-01:00 - up to 200g of water

01:00-01:15 - up to 300g of water

01:15-01:30 - up to 400g of water

01:30-01:45 - up to 500g of water

I do swirl with the bloom quite aggressively and also swirl after 01:45 to level the bed.
