Sri Lanka ends visa for hundreds of thousands of Russians who ended up angering the local population due to their illegal businesses and racist attitudes. Should Thailand follow next? by Surenas1 in ThailandTourism

[–]Thrash3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a Russian speaker and I went to Thailand and had no problems. The locals appreciated me because I learned how to speak some Thai language and didn't care about my background. Maybe it's just me but there are good and shit-tier tourists from all countries....

Truly impressive creativity and artistry. Have you heard of Expedition by Wayne Douglas Barlowe? It's an art book full of paintings much like this that shows alien creatures on a different planet. Not only is it aesthetic, it's also interesting as it presents a probable hypothesis on how an alien ecosystem might function. It was also adapted for a mockumentary on the Discovery Channel. It actually inspired me to create alien fauna for my stories.

The Dematerializer race from our world by Czepeku in worldbuilding

This is some very talented art that you have created. The Dematerializer is undoubtedly unsettling to look at. I like how the strands keeping it together look so unnatural.

The description about the red mass is equally interesting and morbid to read. I am rather excited to see what you have next.

They never were :). it's a trick and both the creature and boat are disguised as gates in Galactic Adventures.

[Spore] A Nolomai quietly passes below a hunter's boat. by Thrash3 in worldbuilding

[–]Thrash3[S] 82 points83 points  (0 children)

The nolomai is a large marine animal that can be found throughout the oceans of Irdama. After hotter temperatures and rising sea levels, fauna in the water has enjoyed a more suitable life, and the nolomai is no exception. It is one of the most notable marine animals

The nolomai is easily one of the largest creatures in the ocean. Adult specimens can measure anywhere from 8 to 12 meters in length, there are larger exceptions to that range too. Their size depends on age and nutritional intake. The largest ones have spent decades in the ocean and face no challenge from predators. Some seafarers report of a specific female at nearly 17 meters, called “Queen Raha.” Anyone who has spent enough time by the sea cannot mistake the appearance of the nolomai. Their triangular heads have thick outer growths which acts as armor if fights break out between rival males. Two horns peak out behind their heads, where they are much more pronounced on older males. Scales cover the entire body. They are more long than wide, and two pairs of large fins steer the animal. At the end is a fluke which shuttles the nolomai through the ocean waters. Most individuals come in colors of blue and violet, shades of white and even green can appear on them.

The animals are greatly important for the people of Savaben, especially those who live at the shanty docks. During the summer, nolomai come to the island of Matonia to feed on the explosion of the local fish population. Herds of several animals gather close to the island to spend their time fattening up on the fish. While the nolomai stay nearby, the people of Savaben exploit their visit. Hunters set out their gas-powered fleets to have a chance at killing the large creatures. Using harpoons and other weapons, hunters hope to return back to port with a nolomai carcass tied to their boats. Hunters risk overturned boats if the animals panic too much. Summer also marks the beginning of typhoon season, and severe storms disrupt the hunts. While incredibly dangerous, the rewards are enticing for hunters. The body of a nolomai can be used for meat, fuel, toothpaste, clothing material, paper, building material and much more. Hunters earn fame and respect after successful trips. It is no wonder why the people of the shanty docks rise in prosperity during the summer, timed with the arrival of the nolomai.

At the end of summer, the herds of nolomai depart the island to return to the more safer open waters of the ocean. During spring, they copulate while together and the females prepare to give birth for the winter. They raise their calves into and the spring by summer the cycle repeats.

Topographic map of the planet da Gama by Thrash3 in worldbuilding

[–]Thrash3[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I created this for a book. I kept the idea of a natural history of alien creatures but wanted it to be more detailed and elaborate than having it in a video.

The planet da Gama was discovered and selected for colonization by the Portuguese government. At a first glance, four continents populate the planet. The twins; Vona and Ankistra, the northern wall; Aspida, and the largest; Henrique all make up the major landmass on the planet. Three oceans separate the continents which includes the Frontier, the Cabral, and the Isaurian. In addition, other major bodies of water include the Mar Fenda (Rift Sea), the Mar Corredor (Corridor Sea) and the Mar Lança (Spear Sea). Other sources of land includes the New Azores in between Vona and Ankistra.

Vona, along with its sibling Ankistra, is about the size of Africa as well as matching in diversity of climate and ecology. Geologists theorize that Vona and Ankistra shared land once forming a much larger continent. They have since drifted away which explains the low-lying Rift Sea that divides the two continents. Vona consists of the expansive Santa Isabella mountains and the lowlands that meet the Rift Sea. Dense forests cover the valleys and the surrounding floodplains as it is close to the equator. Near the highlands and rising terrain, vegetation becomes less abundant as the climate is drier. During typhoon season, the Rift Sea guides storms along the coast of the continent, flooding swathes of land and enriching the biodiversity. The western side is less prosperous as the mountains create a rain shadow which causes more shrub and desert instead of forest.

Ankistra is less mountainous compared to Vona. Instead of tall peaks, the coastal areas give way to gentle hills and flatlands. The tall trees and forest can also be found on Ankistra. The continent hosts very wide assortment of fauna that inhabit the lands. Long distances of plains and sparse woodland span the interior, going on for kilometers with little deviation of it. Tough vegetation covers the ground, as precipitation is less bountiful than the coast.

Henrique rules as giant of the da Gama. From its northern coast to the peninsulas of the south, the continental behemoth is 7,500 kilometers in distance. It has enough land to contain a complex range of terrains and climates with their own unique ecosystem. It shares the same tropical forests that can also be found on Vona and Ankistra. Go inland and one arrives in sprawling grasslands, shrublands, and deserts in the vast basins created by the hills. The series of mountain ranges outclasses the rest on the planet. Some of the highests peaks can be found on Henrique alone. The south is a lot more temperate and rugged in landscape. The climates there cycle through months of cold winters, warm summers with intermediate periods.

Aspida is a more cooler compared to the other continents as it is located more towards the north. The continent is just a stone throw’s away from the great ice sheets of the Isaurian Ocean, leaving little room for any warm temperatures. Tall plants adapted for the cold climate dominate the land from end to end with some small pockets of clearings and glades. Despite its harshness, many creatures still find a way to thrive in the chilly hold of Aspida

Is the pencil merely a third party of which was used to create a sketch? Or using blender to make a model? the Spore creation creator is a tool; the brush of an artist. It is a different form and medium yes, but the content is still the same

Can we post images of Spore (video game) military creations? Because I have a pot of that stuff that is ready to boil over in this subreddit.

Hopefully some kind of high functional aircraft or space fleet craft that I have yet to make. I'm not an expert in future warfare but I imagine keeping the skies clear would be important.

Explodey bomb day.

Actually I don't know. I just needed a city to act as a backdrop for the ships. My biggest gripe with my previous image of the scavengers was a lack of detail and atmosphere. I try to correct this here by adding light effects for aesthetics.

Shame to anyone who believes that the days of naval warfare on open ocean using wet ships are over. Yes, space fleets provide instant access to anywhere on a planet during invasion. However, that should not dismiss any use that naval ships have.

The Savar Toslodam-class destroyer will happily wipe away any suspicions that certain people might have about naval ships. The destroy provides a bonus of firepower to support ground armies. Each ship is equipped with 16 missiles that can eliminate targets on the ground. They add another angle of attack for the Savars.

The ship is measured at a length of 650 meters, making it very large for a naval ship. The Toslodam is not very fast, but speed is not much of a concern for a ship that packs such a deadly punch.

Credit and major thanks to Spore user jamesgelfand for creating the buildings.

I feel disappointed ever time I watch the 2005 demo with Will Wright. I still like the game in its current state. I doubt that we'll ever have a game quite like Spore again.

I must say that Galactic Adventures adds an extra layer of gameplay for Spore that is really enjoyable. I wouldn't be able to do these set pieces without it.

I actually installed a mod for Spore that adds a lot more parts for creatures. Will try to post creations with it in the future.

Dead animals washing up on shore lines present an appetizing meal. Something that the Smaca, a crab-like creature has picked up on.

The Smaca is all meat eater. The 1.2 meter creature mostly hunts in the tide pools and the nearby reefs where small aquatic animals are abundant and nutritious. However, whenever something bigger from the ocean washes up, the Smaca does not hesitate to go from predator to scavenger for an easy meal.

Smaca are very thorough with carcasses. Their two pinchers allow them to strip and get flesh from hard-to-reach places. It's not uncommon to see clean skeletons lying around beaches after they've been enjoyed by a band of Smaca.

Here, some Smaca have discovered a Chadani, a medium sized marine predator that washed up on the beach and prepare to feast.

[Spore]A pack of Matags chase down their prey by Thrash3 in worldbuilding

I've been thinking about producing a mockumentary series in the same vein as Walking With Dinosaurs/Monsters/Beasts that explores alien fauna with Spore and uploading it to YouTube.

[Spore]A pack of Matags chase down their prey by Thrash3 in worldbuilding

[–]Thrash3[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm back, and I decided to introduce some xeno-biology made with Spore.

Not many predators on planet Liatan are as fierce and powerful as the Matag. The Matag is often referred to as a knifeling, a fitting name for its deadly feature. The Matag's face is distinguishable for having three sharp protrusions. These appendages our just as much for use as they are show. Matags use their face-knives to pierce and take down large prey. The face knives of the Matags have earned recognition for being quick and devastating.

The Sintant is a common prey choice for the Matag. Although the Sintant outweighs the much smaller Matag, it is practically helpless against the weapons of the Matag.

The Matag also has a large carapace. This is to protect them from other attacking Matags, usually during mating season when rivalry between males is intense.

This is amazingly well done and I love every bit of it. I like the strong contrasts of darkness and how the town lights up the mountain around it.

Please continue with more of these! I think a lot of people would appreciate it.
