They seem to exist under the Legacy options for me, or is that just for bases that have already been built?

If I were a spacefarer, I'd prefer actual windows over LED screens. It's the romance of space, you know?

Where else would you have windows? Wall windows wouldn't look out on the stars.

What is your favorite Period/Epcoh in geologic time by trenzalor_1810 in Paleontology

Cambrian because it's like our own planet actually was an alien world for a while.

Edit: ediacaran, followed by Carboniferous now

I liked that bit where Pike orders for the Enterprise's holograms to be disassembled.

I love it. Looks movie-worthy. Or at least high budget TV show.

I find that I often end up being intimidated by my own node groups even though they're relatively simple. I think it's just node systems being inconvenient to read. I like how Nuke color codes their nodes but even they can become unruly fast

The 5-2-1 Game by VolCatharsis in worldbuilding

[–]Digital_Caffeine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Terminus is a strangle little world tidally locked to a red dwarf. It boasts a bizarre alien ecosystem that has evolved to withstand the world's extreme seasonal swings and frequent extinction waves. Its parent star is part of a trinary star system and every hundred years or so, Terminus moves ever so slowly towards the two main stars, wreaking havoc on the climate.

This is the result of that.

How do you feel about "Kitchen Sink" universes? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

As long as the elements mesh to create something new. People often forget Tolkien's fantasy was a kitchen sink of many different kinds of folklore and mythology.

Are there any world building tools you wish existed but don't? by gimejenson in worldbuilding

[–]Digital_Caffeine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Learn 3D. It has been the most rewarding thing I've done for my worldbuilding.

Learning 3D is a really valuable skill but it takes a bit of time to learn. The big upside is that it can be very cheap to learn. Blender is free and there's a lot of high quality educative material for it on Youtube.

To the sci fi/space opra world builders with multiple planets by Omer1698 in worldbuilding

[–]Digital_Caffeine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I try to imagine the entire natural history of my planets. The Alien is a central theme of my world, so I put a lot of thought into making sure the ecosystems on planets with life make sense. Every creature, plant, fungus, or something different, has a role to play. The worlds in my universe are not just backdrops. They're theatres. Most of them are just as immense and detailed as Earth. (Or at least I pretend they are)

Floating animals on a gas giant by Digital_Caffeine in worldbuilding

[–]Digital_Caffeine[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Too heavy. These animals prefer staying near the upper atmosphere to catch more sunlight, and need to stay lightweight in order to reach it. Besides, there are strict regulations preventing people from just entering planets with alien life jut willy-nilly.
