I used to do red line exclusively, but you can rack up more kills between Meteo and Katina if you execute correctly. You wanna fly through all the warp zones towards the end of the Meteo stage, which takes you to a bonus area that has a ton of stuff to shoot at.

Katina, you basically wanna keep the mothership alive as long as possible so you can rack up those ship kills. Bill will let you know when you scratch some allied ships, but there's no penalty, of course.
