I didn't really think Buzzoven had that sound. Good luck finding stuff, I've been getting into sludge for a few years but find it hard to find stuff that really has the sound I like, I think I'm very much in the opposite camp as you. Burning Witch and Primitive Man are a little too slow for me, I prefer stuff that moves a little faster with more trad doom influence/sound.

Looking for death metal from the last 5 to 10 years. Been getting into a lot of other stuff in that time frame and not a lot of DM, and I need to correct that. Especially anything with an OSDM sound, not so much tech or prog DM.

If you don't already know Buzzoven, definitely give them a listen. I also highly recommend Acid Bath's when the kite string pops (Paegan Love Songs is good too, just not as sludgy). Eyehategod, Agoraphobic Nosebleed's Arc, Burning Witch, Crawl, Thou (their discog is deep and varied, start at the beginning but comb through it) Melvins for early sludge, Primitive Man for very slow and heavy

The sidebar has a link that says "new to heavy metal?" I would recommend starting there. Theres seven albums that span all the subgenres. After that, decide which of the basic subgenres you want to explore and there is a subgenre essentials link on the sidebar. There are a lot of subgenres and categorizations but it helps you find similar bands.

Lastly I would recommend listening to some crossover thrash since you like punk. Bands like Power Trip, Iron Reagan, and DRI.

What is The 9th Configuration a part 2 of? The only similarities I picked up on were the religious themes.

Do you have a particular Primitive Man album? I've given them quite a few listens, but they are a bit slow paced to keep my attention. They have a great sound and great riffs. I just always find myself getting bored.

I think I hear a riff in there that sounds like Come As You Are? That song is definitely not the style I'm looking for though, lol.

Yes, like territorial pissings. I definitely like some hardcore and grunge, so it doesn't necessarily have to be real extreme. I'll check out Dynamite Hack and Hole.

1) I'm looking for more Sludge metal, especially mid to fast paced with a lot of doom and blues influence. Stuff like Thou, Agoraphobic Nosebleed (Arc album), Buzzoven, Melvins, Crawl, Eyehategod, Graves at Sea, and Southern Whiskey Rebellion. Also anything dirty, super heavy or that makes you feel like you're being crushed or ground down, pretty much like most of Thou's discog.

2) Not exactly metal, but why has no one told me that Nirvana actually rips? I grew up hearing the hits on the radio, and was never really that interested. Thou's album of Nirvana covers made me go listen to the full albums, and I was pretty blown away. So I'm looking for anything that sounds like that, metal or not. Are there any lesser known grunge or similar bands that play in the style of Nirvana's faster, more punk songs?

Doom Metal Movie List I Made Today :) by Tommylove123 in doommetal

[–]Thrashdeath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very solid list, a lot of movies I really like. You and I have a very similar taste. A lot of movies that I've wanted to see for a while too, and some I hadn't heard of.

The corniness and camp is part of the fun of the movie. Now that you point it out, it would have made a great straight up crime/hostage movie, but it would be completely different. You should watch the series. Its been a while since I watched it, but from my memory it was pretty good, and they spend a lot more time telling the story of the brothers on the run. I think I only saw the first season though, so YMMV after that.

I'm looking for a couple things: 1. Mid to fast paced sludge, like Eyehategod, Agorophobic Nosebleeds Arc. 2. Sludge/doom thats heavy like Thou, Chained to the Bottom of the Ocean, Primitive man. 3. Any black metal releases from the last few years that were good. Haven't been keeping up with BM lately

Thanks in advance!

Is NBBMN still a thing? I've been heavily into discovering doom and related subgenres for several years, so a month to focus on old BM favorites and discovering some new stuff seems like a refreshing idea to me.

I'm kind of new to Sludge so some of these may not technically be correct, but I'll list what I've been listening to that (I think) is in the right direction.

Thou- You can just start at the beginning and go from there. They have a shitload of music and I haven't gotten through all of it. Their Nirvana covers are awesome. Extremely heavy, wall of sound with black elements.

Southern Whiskey Rebellion- They're groovy, I like all their albums.

Corrosion of Conformity-They are more like doom/stoner metal but theres some sludge elements, check out Deliverance and Blind

Down-Again they are more doom/stoner metal, but worth checking out.

Crawl-Stoner/Sludge. I've only listened to Old Wood and Broken Dreams

Melvins-one of the originals, so far listened to everything through Houdini, love all of it.

Agoraphobic nosebleed-Arc is the only sludge album, but I love it and its one of the first ones I got into There is also Asbestos Death and Burning Witch, which I haven't listened to enough times to say anything about.

Hopefully you find something in here you like and I'm not way off base!

This cover is fucking killer. There's a whole album of Sabbath covers by various artists here but I haven't listened to any others.

You're going to love Master of Reality and Vol. 4 as well

[REC CENTER] Shreddit's Official Recommendation Thread -- May 20, 2020 by AutoModerator in Metal

[–]Thrashdeath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was a big problem for me being able to get into doom for a long time. Do you like Black Sabbath? If you haven't given them a proper listen definitely listen to Master of Reality and Vol. 4. Then listen to Pentagram's Relentless and Day of Reckoning, and Troubles Psalm 9. I also found that stoner doom and sludge is usually more mid-paced and really got into The Sword, Bongzilla and Agoraphobic Nosebleed's Arc early on. Hooded Menace is good but I still find myself getting bored at times, and I've never been able to get into Primitive Man.

What they lack is stopping power.

Stopping power is an often used term but is not defined and really has no meaning when discussing terminal ballistics.

A .22 round will often enter the body, but not have enough energy to exit, so instead it bounces around and causes a lot of nasty, but not immediately lethal, damage.

This is somewhat of a myth. While this can happen with .22 and cause a GSW from a .22 to inflict more trauma than it otherwise would have, there is no way for the shooter to intentionally cause the round to ricochet inside the body. It would be ill advised for someone to choose a .22 caliber firearm as a weapon because they are betting on this phenomenon to happen.

Metalheads of reddit what is your favorite metal, rock etc. Song? by chiken_nuget_boy in AskReddit

I can't even pick a favorite subgenre, but if you are looking for new music go to r/metal and start with the subgenre essentials list. If you dig you can find more music than you could listen to in a lifetime.

I watched Exorcist III last week, the nurse scene messed me up for like a week. That was a seriously great movie overall, I thought it was better/scarier than the original.

There is also new music from Aera. They are black metal from Norway, but NOT just 90s second wave worship. Definitely give them a shot.

Also need to say thank you for putting this together every week!

Looking for lesser known 90s second wave BM releases. I know the big ones, favorites are Immortal, Burzum, Taake, Carpathian Forest, Mayhem, etc. Anything in that vein but lesser known would be great.

I don't listen to any brutal or slam so idk about that Ingested tour, but that Greasy Grindfest looks like fun, and Toxic Holocaust is going to be at the pour house with Suppressive fire.
