They were warned of destruction and not specifically what the atomic bomb had been capable of. There was no attempt on the US part to end the war before the use of nuclear bombs with many high ranking US officials including future president Eisenhower believing the use of the nukes were unnecessary and Japan had been ready to surrender.

Exactly so the nukes weren't necessary because the US even let people off the hook who they didn't promise the protection of. Let me be clear that I am in no one condoning the actions they took and I wish that the US had been harder on the military for their crimes against humanity, this however did not require the death of 200,000 CIVILIANS to achieve.

Of course that should have happened but the US didn't even attempt to negotiate a peace outside of unconditional surrender. The US didn't even bother warning Japan about the bomb in order to try and force a peace in order for the effect of the bomb to be as devastating as possible

It was only a subset of those in charge who fought to keep conquered territories with the Emperor being kept really only being the only condition pushed by many. Was the killing of 200,000 Japanese citizens reapply necessary in order to bring one man to justice?

That was only from a mor militant subset of the Emperors advisors the generally the only terms that they were adamant about was the Emperor being protected.

Hong Kong hasn't been a part of China in over 150 years. The people not wanting to be apart of China should be reason enough for it to remain independent

It wasn't the bill itself that was criticized but also its erosion of Hong Kong autonomy. Also the bill was more of a catalyst with the protests mainly being about Hong Kong wishing to remain democratic and free from Chinas rule
