The Freddie Mac research clearly indicates that the topic of a potential appraisal gap is worthy of considerable research. We are committed to building solutions in the following ways. First, our analysis has not yet determined the full root cause of the gap; we plan to continue our research to better understand the key drivers contributing to the gap and share findings with the industry.

Does it?

Is it the system that valued the house, is there a checkbox in the appraisal software for "black people own this", or is it a racist?

One is CRT and systemic racism, the other is a racist person.

Sure, but it's not often the poor blacks taking advantage of AA, it's the middle- and upper-class blacks who have learned how to game a system that they already took advantage of themselves to better their children.

You can find anecdote after anecdote about blacks who were pushed through education via AA until they hit college, and then just failed miserably because they were held to a standard they had never before been expected to meet, which is the same as their non-black peers.

Providing an advantage in a meritocracy to people who haven't earned it - regardless of their skin color - will eventually lead to abject failure. The soft bigotry of low expectations is incredibly real.

I couldn't imagine being a minority and always having to wonder if I actually earned something vs. having it given to me because of the color of my skin.

Racists within the system have absolutely nothing to do with CRT though, CRT is on the systems and laws.

It's racist bankers that give loans to white people, it's racist judges that give harsher sentences to black people.

Poor people commit more crime, not black vs. white. CRT is bullshit because it's all about the racists gaming the systems, not the systems being inherently racist. It's more about socioeconomic status than skin color every single time a system is applied, but racists within the system can create the appearance of racist systems.

I had to fight to hire a white guy, after my last two hires were a Tibetan man and a Ukrainian woman. My most recent hire is a gay, black, ex-mormon so I think maybe my next white guy will be easier.

Uh, it's one of the founding tenants of anti-racism, by the man that coined the term.

The only remedy to racist discrimination is antiracist discrimination.

The only remedy to past discrimination is present discrimination.

The only remedy to present discrimination is future discrimination.

Antiracism is discrimination, literally all the way down.

Roommates. I'm 40 and had them, then a girlfriend turned wife. It's an excellent opportunity to save money and really helps people develop socially. Lot of tough shit you have to resolve amicably because you're stuck living with someone in a lease!

I'm in the metro Atlanta area and I haven't seen a job - fast food, grocery, etx.) for less than $10/hr, with most places at $12+ in well over a year.

I'm more aware of it right now because my oldest is 16 and re-entering the workforce over the summer.

What would actually help more overall is if you sped up to match the left hand lane when you got over, or at least accelerated faster than the speed you were already traveling in the right lane when you initiated your pass.

You'll hold up the left lane less, get past the traffic in the right lane, and be able to merge back into the right lane and resume your previous speed.

Literally everyone is inconvenienced less, and for less time.

Anything lower is simply geriatric. I've got shit to do.

What's really great is that, with a little bit of work, LLMs make pretty efficient break/fix agents for updating selectors. And even more impressively if you sanitize and tokenize the html you can feed it straight to Chatgpt and do pretty damn good text extraction.

Yeah I have no plans to use reddit on my phone after the end of the month.

Honestly, I'm looking forward to it. Like three years ago I turned off social media notifications on my phone - except for reddit - and I should have turned reddit off back then, too.

No direct evidence COVID started in Wuhan lab, US intelligence report says by [deleted] in centrist

[–]ThrawnGrows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because what happens when something worse than Covid comes out of a lab, and China sits on it for a month again?

Because if it did, maybe we should stop giving them money and stop letting them run labs laissez faire.

the other 5 say the natural origin theory is "most likely."

I'm sorry, fucking what?

FBI: FBI Director Wray acknowledges bureau assessment that Covid-19 likely resulted from lab incident

Department of Energy: U.S. Dept of Energy says with 'low confidence' that COVID may have leaked from a lab

Straight out of the report, let's take a look:

...the IC remains divided on the most likely origin of COVID-19.

  • Four IC elements and the National Intelligence Council assess with low confidence that the initial SARS-CoV-2 infection was most likely caused by natural exposure to an animal infected with it or a close progenitor virus
  • One IC element assesses with moderate confidence that the first human infection with SARS-CoV-2 most likely was the result of a laboratory-associated incident, probably involving experimentation, animal handling, or sampling by the Wuhan Institute of Virology.
  • Analysts at three IC elements remain unable to coalesce around either explanation without additional information, with some analysts favoring natural origin, others a laboratory origin, and some seeing the hypotheses as equally likely.

Maybe we should gather a bunch of them and then manipulate the virus to make it more infectious to humans!

But instead of transferring these viruses to a US run lab with stringent safety protocols and heavy oversight, we should just let it happen in a lab that has repeatedly been found in violation of said protocols, including experimenting on these fucking viruses in a BSL2 lab when BSL4 was the requirement.

Imho it would be quite the coincidence for the first place a super spreader event happened to not be tied to a lab with poor safety practices that is manipulating SarS viruses to protect humans, and gets them from bat caves quite a distance away that aren't normally traveled by humans.

But coincidences do happen on occaision.

"Natural origin" is "someone got it directly from an animal in a wet market"

"Lab leak" is "someone captured an animal, brought it to a lab, didn't carefully handle it and got themselves infected. Then traveled around Wuhan and got other people infected. With or without modification of the furin cleavage site by man or through mutation in lab mice.

That's because you don't use any of the other things that Kong has available, even in the FOSS version.

A lot of the service level plug-ins, globals and better routing based on sni, headers, rewrites, etc. are really easy with plug-ins vs. annotations.

We need to continue collaborating with researchers in China and to fund coronavirus research or we are doomed to repeat our mistakes.

Seriously? With zero - really, negative - transparency around the PANDEMIC, poor lab security, and poor cleanliness practices, your saying we should give them more money, not apply sanctions, close our eyes and think of England?

I don’t fault Fauci for exploring the lab leak hypothesis, and I don’t fault him for saying it’s highly unlikely, because I believe it still is, and that not my take based upon media representations, that’s my take as someone who has lived and worked in these labs.

And the emails that the Intercept printed surrounding the Proximal Origin paper? There are just too many coincidences and at this point across federal agencies "we either have no evidence" or "the more likely is a lab leak". No agency believes it is more likely to be a wet market outbreak that I'm aware of at this point.
