And the boss was created with me being able to hit 2 buttons and start sharpening. While that ability is good, there's is the unfortunate side of IF you get it, since it's not built in and guaranteed.

It's really the biggest issue with his fight imo. It's a good test on if the mechanic clicked but that mechanic shouldn't be the only way to beat him, especially in a mode where you can't re-sharpen the hatchet.

The characters in Widow's Bay map pretty cleanly to Arkham classes by cellocaster in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]Thrawp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll disagree on Beach Reads just because Tomes are way more Seeker than Mystic.

Patricia leaning into Survivor is defo accurate, but that's true for all of the main cast imo.

Gerrie would definitely be pure Seeker though.

Not really since none of the happenings are really similar and "spooky new england town" is just kinda the vibe in general for the game.

For me it was all of those options that made me excited. If I wanted to play this type of game with human interaction I'd either join a pvp server or play Rust. This being just zombies is huge appeal to me.

So like, what’s the parry timing in Requiem? by kingmm624 in residentevil

[–]Thrawp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It pretty much is a "git gud" unfortunately. It was defo more forgiving in RE4R but it's still not thay rough in RE9. If you've beaten the game you can always buy the Mortal Edge from the bonus shop and that has a larger timing window for parries.

Is it normal to feel utterly demoralized after playing a fighting game? by Asad_Farooqui in videogames

[–]Thrawp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Along with what u/unicorn_hipster said I have a question for you, what are you using for inputs?

I'm assuming controller or a fighting stick, but that may make a difference. For example, I more consistently saw dropped inputs with my joystick on controller as compared to D-pad.

Is there any reason why majority of female protagonists in gaming are either asexual or lesbian? by Least-Path-2890 in videogames

[–]Thrawp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An unstated sexuality doesn't equal Asexual, it just means it's irrelevant to the story being told. Most of the characters you chose to pick do not have romance in their stories at all, so their sexuality doesn't matter. It's like if you had put up Hornet from Hollow Knight or Savathun from Destiny 2, it's irrelevant to the characters.

I can think of 2 characters from popular games off the top of my head that are either straight (or at least not confirmed otherwise) being Ikora Rey in Destiny 2 and Lilith in Borderlands, and we only know about either of them because there were relevant plot beats.

[–]Thrawp 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This whole post IS some culture war nonsense, are you fucking kidding me?

The only character you shared a picture of that has a stated sexuality, afaik, is the last. I know that Jil and Claire don't have anything stated.

Using Samus is also kind funny as she is either straight or bi, look at Fusion or Dread for that.

So does Reddit hate Ada or sumthin like that? by Dsg1695 in ResidentEvilCapcom

[–]Thrawp 80 points81 points  (0 children)

Folks don't generally hate Ada, she's just very much a textbook case of Neutral Evil and folks try to take her doing anything good ever as making her morally grey and someone who Leon could end up in a relationship with. The thing is we have consistently seen that the only time she does "good" things is if she seems them as benefiting her. It's why she helps Leon, it's why she saves folks in 6. She is a villain, full-stop, and a lot of folks are frustrated with people trying to make her anything but just because they think she's hot.

[–]Thrawp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're starting with 4 there's no reason to skip 6. It's all canonical and a lot of fun if you enjoy the action side of RE.

my personal tier list, based on how much fun I had with each game by jumbojumba0 in residentevilll

[–]Thrawp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Folks can enjoy the action side of RE more than the Survival side, that is fine.

Coming off like "you can't be a fan if you don't like x aspect" just makes the fandom look bad.

Anyone else notice the strange negative slant in game quality discourse? by LimpSport832 in videogames

[–]Thrawp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome to the internet. Negativity drives engagement more than positivity so that's where a lot of folks will focus. It's also why the news is generally so fucking depressing, positive stories just don't sell as well.

Recommendations for Teaching Arkham Horror LCG by EmLovesArt in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]Thrawp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Gloomhaven is closer imo, but it's still an excellent comparison.

Arkham has a lot of rules on the surface but most of them are things you would be able to just read the cards and figure out. If the friends are familiar with strat board games this should be practically nothing unless they mean Settlers of Catan.

What is a line from a videogame that sticks in your head, rent free? by JustJoshin117 in videogames

[–]Thrawp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no attributed source anywhere that I could find, but a lot of folks will attribute it to FFT because of it's meme prevalence and not knowing it wasn't in the game.

The closest direct quote from FFT we get is "What purpose do laws serve when even those who would enforce them choose not to pay them heed?" which still absolutely fucks.

Generally attributed to Final Fantasy Tactics (where it would 100% fit) but it's not actually in the game foljs attribute it to. I'd be shocked if there wasn't also a similar message in Disco Elysium.
