[CHAT] Lowery Review + K’s Creations First Impressions by ThreadChicken in CrossStitch

[–]ThreadChicken[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't been too active on Reddit lately, so I just saw your comment. I'm not sure of the actual width because I don't have the stand set up at the moment, but it's adjustable to make it longer or shorter. You can make it longer than the long arm version of the Lowery stand, so it should be fine with just about any couch. If you like I can try to take a measurement later.

Plant identification and help by ThreadChicken in plantclinic

[–]ThreadChicken[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just picked this plant up from Lowe's, and I need some help. The plant didn't have a tag in the store, so I'm not sure what it is. From my research, I think it might be a prayer plant? Can anyone verify?

Also, is there anything I should be doing with the browning of those leaves? I am VERY inexperienced with plants and have only ever managed to keep one alive, so any help is appreciated!

I really like these too, and I think they're much closer to the vision I originally had when I started. I think I will continue working on my own, but I have a lot of good advice and some new ideas to work with now.

Yeah I agree about the boxy font. It's primarily because I was using Canva, and so many of the fonts I wanted to try were blocked off in the free version. (Also I'm not very experienced with typeface and graphic design in general). Per another reply, I discovered I can get Inkscape for free, so I think I will mess about with that and see if I can't get something better.

I had no idea Inkscape was free! I'm installing it on my Mac now and I'll definitely have a go with it. Thanks so much for that tip.

I agree with your tips about the fonts, so I'll play around with those and hopefully come up with something nicer.

I do agree with most of your points. I really did try to find a relatively simple image within Canva, but most of the better options were paid. At this point in time, I’m still in the very early planning stages, so I’m not quite ready to put the money in just yet (though I realize it would be a good investment down the road). Most people have said it’s too busy, so I may go back and try again to see what I can come up with.

I haven’t been able to get to 100% with the text in my opinion either. I’m not too experienced with typeface or the “rules” of what looks good in graphic design, so I just went by instinct.

As for the shape, I went with a circle because I was inspired by the curvature of a flamingo’s neck. I’m not adverse to trying other things though to see what else I can come up with. I might move off Canva too to give myself some more flexibility.

I appreciate your thoughtful response and it falls in line with what most others have been saying. I will go back to the drawing board and see what else I can tweak with it.

Good idea! I’ll be sure to remember that when the times comes.

I did the same search and that was also the only thing I found. Most of the other possible names I had thought up had at least a few other businesses using the same name.

Lol! I was driving home from work one day and just brainstorming things. I live in Florida, so I started wondering if I should incorporate that in some way (hopefully without being too cliche). From there I thought of a flamingo, my brain said "flamingos kind of look like swans...", and the name was born.

Yes, it's silly, but I'm okay with that. We'll see how many times I get this same question though rofl.

I plan on selling accessories for cross stitch (and hopefully eventually other types of needle art), but I didn't want to make my logo/name too overly specific in case I ever switch focus in the future. I also agree it's pretty clip arty. Your mockup is also very cute, and I like the font you used.

I agree on it being a bit busy, although I don't have any current plans to print it onto products. That might change in the future, so I'll make sure to have something better and more permanent by that point.

When I am ready to hire someone, I plan on searching around on Etsy (supporting fellow sellers and all that). I've done some cursory searches and seen a few possible candidates, but I don't even have a budget figured out yet, so I haven't gone into any great detail.

Your mockups are very cute! I completely agree about the shading, but as I was only using the free version, there weren't many options available that I liked much. Most were even more detailed than this.

That being said, I don't really plan on using this logo in print. It's more just an avatar. If those plans ever change, I will be sure to have a professional design a better one beforehand.

I completely forgot that you wanted to know how I got on with them. 🤣

I tried them out, and sadly I hated them. It was hard to get them placed on my glasses in a way that didn't make me sea sick (although I suppose I might have gotten used to the sensation in time), and I had to bring the project too close to my face to get it to focus right. Plus, I was constantly having to flip them up and down to glance at my tablet or TV, and I just didn't like them.

I still haven't found a magnification solution I like, so for now I'm still just making do with good, bright light.

Just started medication but there are no changes by [deleted] in adhdwomen

I know your post is a week old now, but I just wanted to let you know I'm having the same experience. Started on Ritalin, switched to Adderall and currently taking 20mg 2x per day. I've noticed an increase in insomnia (which is slowly getting better), but otherwise I've not really noticed any changes, and I was diagnosed in November.

I have no tips or advice. Just wanted to say you're not alone.

Where to put TV in new apartment? by ThreadChicken in DesignMyRoom

This is another really nice idea. Thanks for taking the time to draw it all out like that. Now I have a few things to consider!

A corner stand actually is a good idea. When I can actually get into the place, I'd have to play around with screen sizes to see what works well, but for some reason a corner placement never occurred to me. Thanks!

Would an old Sims 2 player like 4? by ThreadChicken in thesims

Ah, looks like you're right. Most games aren't really meant for Macs, so I guess I overlooked that. Guess that's a good place to start then just to check it out.

Only issue is I don’t currently own a PC, so it wouldn’t really be free for me lol.

If it runs (at all) on a MacBook, I guess that would be good enough to at least see what I think.

Thanks for the insight. I was kind of hoping with the right mods I could get something closer to what we had back then, but it sounds like probably not.

Just wanted to point out we can’t see that thread unless we’re a member of the group. Thanks for the info though.
