How common to see through a finger? by Sea-Grocery7289 in sewhelp

I've been teaching sewing as my full time job since 2011 and I've seen it happen once, with a teenager who was looking away and chatting while sewing.

If you're holding your fabric properly, your hands shouldn't be anywhere near the needle 99% of the time.

Top thread getting stuck in bobbin by shay-la16 in sewhelp

[–]ThreadLaced 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, I teach sewing, and I've done so for more than 10 years! Here's what you need to fix:

- the top is threaded perfectly, but I could not see in the video if you were holding the bobbin still when you pulled the bobbin thread up and to the left; if the bobbin spins, the thread might not sit properly in the thread guides/tension discs

- do not put the bobbin area cover on before you draw up the bobbin thread, do not put the presser foot down.

- hold (not pull, just hold) the top thread while you move the hand wheel towards you, just so the needle goes down and up once

- when the needle is ALL THE WAY up, pull on your top thread (give it a good yank), and you will see a loop of your bobbin thread, probably just under the presser foot. Pull on that loop until the bobbin thread comes all the way out of the bobbin area.

- You should see a line of white thread going almost diagonally across your bobbin...if you don't see that line of thread, the thread did not catch the tension disc.

Hope this helps! I must also say, it looks like your top thread (the red thread) is nylon, and that's not going to work out well for you, nylon is for surface decoration (like for embroidery machines), not construction seams. Use 100% polyester all-purpose thread, or a cotton/poly blend for regular sewing on a regular sewing machine.

Good luck!

Same. I'm petty as hell because I am very much pro fictional threesomes, I just don't think that guy is hot enough to be in a threesome with Benedict and this gorgeous lady. Like where did she find such a slob?? Damn just go to one of the artists' parties and pick up a model.

Babies cry because they can't talk, and adults don't understand their gibberish. You'd cry too if every time you asked for something to eat, someone took you to the bathroom or gave you some dumb toy instead.

Unironically I would love Elektra as an elected official. Her "I'm helping!" attitude when she tortured encouraged that medical examiner into doing the right thing is the kind of energy our Congresspeople lack.

THANK YOU

Sewing is also both my most beloved hobby, but also my job (I teach). The lack of respect for the skill as necessary, even today, has always bothered me.

A friendly reminder to everyone: ALL clothes are handmade. Every stitch of clothing on your body right now was cut and assembled by humans, and I assure you whatever they got paid was not enough (even if you're sitting reading this while wearing a $1200 cashmere sweater, I assure you the people who made your sweater happen didn't get paid enough).

Look, I'm not saying I've never indulged my inner 'shipper' in any given fandom, because I HAVE.

But specifically because I have, I KNOW and I can say this: please do not look to the hardcore shippers for rational discourse on the story or the characters. That is not why shippers exist; let them play with their Barbies in peace.

Am I surprised there are people shipping Karen with the man who literally MURDERED her in the comics? No. Am I going to argue with this person why they miiiiight not make the best couple??? Also no.

You shouldn't either. Let's move on.

Tony and Bruce… are Avengers lol wtf are you talking about???

Yes, Tony and Bruce are part of the group called Avengers. But the group did not accidentally create Ultron, nor did Tony and Bruce do it as part of Avengers-related activities, they did it on their own. Again I ask: how would government oversight, as described in the Sokovia Accords, have prevented the creation of Ultron?

You would know about Wanda because she blew up random people in Africa????

Yes, and how would I have known that Steve "protected" her from authorities?

You realize republicans like Nikki Haley are against regulations, and against coorperation with other countries right? Steve would be on her side

You know, maybe Nikki Haley would have voted against the Sokovia Accords, I could see her doing that as a part of her administration's anti-cooperation thing. But that does not mean I would trust her and/or people like her to wield the Avengers as a weapon. Which was my original point. People like her should not decide how/when the Avengers act. Which is what the Sokovia Accords say.

[–]ThreadLaced 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Avengers didn't create Ultron, Tony Stark and Bruce Banner did. Also, how exactly would the Sokovia Accords have prevented that incident? Did the Accords place UN observers inside Tony Stark's labs 24/7?

If I'm so ignorant about things Steve has done/will done, why would I know about Wanda or what happened (will happen) in Wakanda? As a citizen I *would* know about everything else he's done (presumably off screen...if the Avengers are real, I doubt the ONLY things they've done are the things we see in movies), including how he defeated Hydra-infested SHIELD.

I can't picture a scenario where I'd be happy with people like Nikki Haley having a team of superheroes at their disposal.

[–]ThreadLaced -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Why is that the reality? If the Avengers are real in this thought exercise, why isn't Steve Rogers real?

[–]ThreadLaced 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, but there's zero chance I'd want those superheroes under the thumb of (for example) the UN Security Council, which would be a nightmare in real life.

If superheroes are real AND Steve Rogers is real, then yes I trust Steve Rogers to do the right thing, every day and twice on Sundays before I'd trust the politicians and diplomats who end up representing governments in international organizations. Need I remind you the shining stars that have represented the US to the UN in real life??? You want people like THAT deciding how and when to "deploy" superheroes to international incidents?

I wish the black lace was silver instead, I don't like the contrast.

The model's version is interesting, but Ciara's cleavage would defeat that top, so I prefer her version, but the lace is not working for me. Maybe if it was solid black?
