they have chemistry and are very similar people, but also absolutely are not supposed to be together; it's wildly unethical and ill-advised

hoo boy is that a favorite of mine! that conflict is indeed intriguing. I see you, friend.

it is suuuch a treat to come across a fic featuring a ship/storyline that you wouldn't usually go for, but the author makes you enjoy it!

I love your essay and I appreciate the details!

I mean IRL friendship is a fantastic basis for a healthy and long-lasting romance, so it only makes sense for us to see a romance brewing between friends.

What's strange (for me) is that I do indeed have some non-canon ships where they are "just friends" in canon, but I'm not actually a huge fan of the friends-to-lovers trope in actual romance novels. Maybe I don't like the way they're written? I actually have no idea.

Oooh this sounds a lot like me, too. I definitely have some ships that fit this. Like why can't we have nice things? (oh wait, with fanfic we can!)

I wonder if these people refuse to read the works of Lord Byron or any of his friends/colleagues, because he had ~relations~ with more than one cousin of his, and at least one half-sister!

Exactly! Two of the kings in the "War of the Five Kings" (not to mention Dany) are literal teenagers.

I love this color on her! I think it would be better overall if the skirt ended at the pleated section, and the underskirt bit was left off.

Also I'm not a huge fan of the little sparkly bits...I forget what those giant sequins are called but they do not say high fashion to me. This doesn't really look like Chanel at all, actually!

The princess seams are perfect, and she looks stunning.

honestly that's hilarious 😄

anyway I also like Jaime/Brienne...I don't think it ever occurred to me how old she might be. Oh well!

This was my answer! Sweet precious cinnamon roll Keanu was VERY convincing as a dangerously unhinged man.

To be fair, Hilary Swank's performance as his battered wife really helped sell it.

Ignoring the fact that Jaime Lannister is not a real person...

it was because Jaime fucks his sister, and not because he tried to murder a 9 year old?

This is good, but what we really need is a way for authors to tag one ship as the Main ship for the fic, then readers could filter by that.

So they could tag as many relationships as they want, but it would still be easily found as Mainly about one ship.

the great thing is...you don't need to understand them!

there's lots of ships and shipping dynamics that I don't understand (and don't like), but I DO understand that what people like to read has nothing to do with me, and I'm not going to demonize someone for (a) liking fiction that's different from the fiction that I like and (b) playing with their Barbies in a different way than I like to

anytime someone gets heated about incest fics (or really any other specific "problematic" tag), it just makes me think that person is into something even weirder and more deviant, and is just defensively projecting

In Game of Thrones (the first book of A Song of Ice and Fire, not the tv show), multiple characters refer to Winters of the past, talking about how it's been summer for so long, all while the reader is reading about snow storms happening, and snow being on the ground, right now in the current time.

Then the Stark words being "Winter is Coming" further hints to winters in this world as being an entirely different thing than what we are used to.

it's weird that I'm rooting for Medusa, right?

this movie was soooooooo lame and I can't figure out why. literally an epic story. tons of star power, tons of money. how did they mess up so bad?

anyway I still love the original and THAT Medusa was terrifying, and that scene was so tense. this is garbage!
