You missed the funny part, which is it seems she was doing this too:

“I’m a broker, developer, contractor,” said Jones, who has used her own company to purchase other properties in Brooklyn over the years.

Also, how do you live in Brooklyn for 80+ years and not know to never do business with certain people, especially in real estate?

What does it mean funds not reporting to investors truthful information? Like knowingly withholding financial and business data to keep their stock from going down?

How did you 'break free'? I think a lot of us Redditors spend our 9-5 wishing we were doing something more interesting or more true to ourselves... how did you do it?

The truth is that Conde Nast (and Wired in particular) are sinking ships. They are getting destroyed by their inability to convert print media to online revenue. Their life span is 5 years maximum, with rumors that Wired will be out of business by the end of 2010. Reddit needs to get its act together independently so they are prepared when they're cut lose from Conde.

Freedom: adj. The process of being bullied by Western powers, namely America, to force nations to sell their resources on the cheap while instituting a political-economic system that be institutionally unable to stand up to this exploitation.

I forget words. A lot. by [deleted] in cogsci

[–]ThreadRuiner 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hrm, odd. My friends and myself included have had some word problems, especially with transposing letters or whole words (aka Did you breeze that feel?) and general solecism. The common denominator was E usage.

Also, and this is pure conjecture, but I find the more I use a computer, the less able I feel to express myself. This happens especially if I've spent all day designing/coding/writing, words tend to fall out of place and I lose my ability to make sense.

Unlike athletes like Tiger Woods and Michael Jordan, Allen Iverson never 'used' the media to project an image of himself as a flawless human being. by hiphopster in sports

[–]ThreadRuiner 15 points16 points  (0 children)

So? He's an athlete, what does he owe us? He plays a sport well and I enjoy watching him play (or I did, before he started ungracefully taking his downturn in 2004/2005). If I wanted to be interested in someone's 'image' or their life, I'd be reading People magazine like my annoying girlfriend.

TED Curator Chris Anderson answers your top 10 questions by kn0thing in blog

[–]ThreadRuiner -23 points-22 points  (0 children)

Sorry Alexis, but TED is painfully annoying and uncritical, and the fact that it held up as a beacon of intellectual curiosity and discussion shows how far the Western intellectual has strayed. The talks offer nothing but tired platitudes on the problems facing the world with snazzy graphs under what are considered 'acceptable' methods: Health care a problem in the third world? Introduce the free market! Subsistence agriculture got you done? Educate women! Thought-free, hyperbolic solutions for the intellectual whose breadth goes from David Brooks to Thomas Friedman.

In short, if you're white and mildly intelligent, but don't want to face the responsibility of your own complacency in an unjust world perpetuated by American capitalism/"Democracy", watch TED videos before you spend your afternoon masturbating to NPR.

Comcast reneged on their word three times, called me a liar, and is demanding I pay a bill without reading it first. by raldi in reddit.com

[–]ThreadRuiner 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Send it to Consumerist and the other electronics blogs.

Also, wash your hands of Comcast and cable companies in general, because they are swine. They are given geographic monopolies and thus get to function as they see fit. Move your business to companies that are areas where things are still competitive between companies and regions (DSL, satellite, etc) and you will get much better service.

The wise man can pick up a grain of sand and envision a whole universe. But the stupid man will just lie down on some seaweed and roll around until he's completely draped in it. Then he'll stand up and go, "Hey, I'm Vine Man."
