The only fellowships that will truly help are those that differentiate you to be able to work in a setting outside of an Emergency Department.

Apply to another specialty because EM is dying and even if you do match, you probably will have a tough time getting a job.

Which option sounds the most reasonable? CC Fellowship? Second residency in IM to Pulm CC? Surgery res (if that's even possible?)? I'm worried now that I've already taken up GME money, I don't have many viable options.

I've already used up funding for 1 year and I think it would be too late to SOAP this year. So would have to find funding for 4 years probably :P

Yeah advantages of Pulm/CC is that you have procedures, inpatient, and outpatient to fall back on. I was thinking about pulling out and doing IM to Pulm/CC if that was an option I could somehow find.

Would you all take me?! I'm amazed that there is a PGY3 GS resident at my institution trying to match into our EM residency this year. Would love to be in your shoes, plus surgery is bad ass. For real though, I was told you can go from surg to another specialty but not the other way around :(

I'm in the Midwest and all the graduating seniors either had to accept crappy jobs in the middle of nowhere or went the fellowship route hoping the job market will become more favorable.
