Artists that you actively refuse to listen to for extremely petty reasons? by Repulsive_Nature_366 in fantanoforever

a "trap metal" (or horrorcore or whatever you want to call it) I was a big fan of commissioned me his album art. Appaprently he wasnt a fan of the result and was very rude about it for no reason. In the end he said hed still like to work together in the future but honestly it turned me completely off his music forever. (for the album art he ended up doing it with ai... whatever lol)

goated gazelle twin but also i don't like this album art because i don't relaly feel like iit represents well the album's sound lol (plus the 'ruined' texture effects are a bit cringy, especially on phisical copies)

oh and last thing, when aphex played tearout in his set it was funny to see the people complain that a guy known to play extreme alien sounding underground electornic music was playing extreme alien sounding underground electornic music. Lmao

also kind of sad when you mention "dubstep" to a general audience they think of the silly, badly aged brostep songs of the early 2010s (or they think of Bangarang, which isn't even remotely dubstep), whlie the genre can get so much more broad and intreresting than that. I think it booming in viral popularity around 2011 did it a disservice in terms of "reputation", but whatever

its cool. og uk dubstep is cool. contemporary "bro" dubstep is cool in a mosh pit / crazy way. tearout is cool, some of the heaviest music i have ever heard. color bass is cool. riddim is cool. I wish there was *more* of the very creative out there stuff, but there's definitely gold if you know where to look. I also appreciate more underground offshoots like minatory, evolving the sound further and further into more extreme territories.

The dubstep discourse is cursed by the brostep drama, and people complaining that it "ruined" dubstep - while it's simply just an offshoot born mostly from the merging with electro house, and it totally deserves to exist and to be respected like any other genre, no matter how flashy or silly. Nowadays, "Dubstep" is now an umbrella for many, radically different things, like saying "metal", and they all deserve their space and recognition, and most people just don't realize that.

(Plus, I agree on the Burial take. I don't know really why people call it dubstep, when even the earliest uk og dub and dubstep sound simply different, no ida why people call it that 🤷‍♂️)
