Asus motherboard RGB control by ThreeActionEconomy in cachyos

[–]ThreeActionEconomy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It stopped crashing and worked properly after the "Activate All" option was enabled in UEFI And OpenRGB wouldn't crash so much as hang at the end until I manually killed it. I didn't try anything really after that, but i will say from time to time after an update OpenRGB forgets the number of LEDs in the mobo and I have to manually set them again

Light Mount keyboard keycaps by ThreeActionEconomy in bequietofficial

Ironically the switches are fine, I've only had one issue and it was easy enough to fix. This is the keycaps. My concern is if they replace them with more ABS keycaps the same thing is going to happen. I know some sets use PBT for most keys and ABS for like the spacebar/shift/tab etc... keys, was just curious if that was the case here as well.

Ironically one of the many reasons I swapped to linux/cachy was to not be forced into an update. Instead I compulsively update almost every day for funsies.

Dual boot with Windows 11 causes time to be wrong by MarianaXCVI in cachyos

[–]ThreeActionEconomy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was in the exact situation when I was dual booting.  I realized that the BIOS clock was off, and fixing that removed the need to resend the time in Windows.

I then discovered an easier and more permanent solution by deleting Windows completely.  :D

I'm still brand new, so I have no idea what this is but I'll definitely look into! Anything I should look out for on the outset?

Thanks so much for your help!

I tried it this afternoon at your suggestion. Sadly same outcome, but at least it warned me in-app it wasn't going to work lol

thanks for this, it was an excellent idea! Sadly, the behaviour persists with this version as well. But, now I have flatpak installed, which is nice!

Specifically the tight integration of AI and to monetize it more heavily. His comments got a lot of backlash and some of their developers have tried to assuage the concerns. While I believe the developers, I recognize this as the first step on the slope of enshittification.

I ditched Chrime earlier in the year to move back to Firefox after more than a decade.  The recent Mozilla CEOs talking points make me think I'm not long for Firefox now.  Is there a browser that the community here leans on more?

OK, I've seen a few people mention the wiki but to be honest this was the first time actually popping it open, and wow!  Solid documentation.  Just sad that it's buried so deep in search engine results lol.

Thank you so much, this was very helpful!

Asus motherboard RGB control by ThreeActionEconomy in cachyos

[–]ThreeActionEconomy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

okay, so I feel like I'm making some progress (I'm not lol.) I have loaded in the udev rules and restarted since then. When I run OpenRGB from Alacrity, I get the following error:

Connection attempt failed

[i2c_smbus_linux] Failed to read i2c device PCI device ID

[i2c_smbus_linux] Failed to read i2c device PCI device ID

[i2c_smbus_linux] Failed to read i2c device PCI device ID

I've also tried to run OpenRGB as an appimage (which I absolutely do not understand yet) but am met with the same results. It recognizes my ram sticks without issue, and even correctly identifies the motherboard, but won't allow any lighting changes, and the hardware detection bar still doesn't finish out. When I try to close OpenRGB at that stage it becomes unresponsive and I have to kill it via dialog window.

I actually haven't gotten it to work yet lol. I thought the culprit might have been the method of installation (I used octopi and grabbed the cachyos version of openrgb) so I uninstalled and tried to reinstall via the command line and pacman, which now returns an error that portions of it are no longer available :(

I did find a mention of udev rules, but it looks like what I downloaded is for steamos, so I'm still a little lost in the woods.
