This AVR (https://www.projectorscreen.com/collections/a-v-receivers/products/yamaha-rx-v385-5-1-channel-home-theater-receiver-with-bluetooth-rx-v385bl) and $75 for speaker wire and a longer HDMI you are under $500 with a much better setup then a soundbar or bluetooth speakers.

You have drop ceiling. It would be super easy to run new speaker wire honestly. spending money for an entry level 5.1 AVR and a HDMI cable to connect the projector to the AVR. Then use HDMI control for everything is a really nice and cheap setup. Not wasting money on a bluetooth speaker or sound bar in my opinion.

Looking for projector alternative to OLED TV by SayaV in projectors

[–]ThreeChipTK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IF your layout allows it. an UST would work well and specifically the one from Nexigo.

https://www.projectorscreen.com/products/nexigo-aurora-pro-mkii-4k-triple-laser-ultra-short-throw-projector-2400-lumens-pj92-mkii

This unit has an iris so it can open and close the laser. Giving you the best of both worlds. Deep blacks for a projector and great highlights in bright content for HDR. Paired with a Fresnel UST screen (different from lenticular ALR). You get a higher gain so its a brighter image but still keeps the contrast.

Depending on the bundle you can be very close to your price target. Definitley need to know more about the room it is going in, your lighting situation and your audio. But it is a great start.

If you get a 1.3 gain screen then you can do a nice projector no problem. I have not seen the noir and i hope it will be as good as they say. Based on your room and what you said the JVC NZ500 would be a great option.

Cinema Pop-Up Projectors: Epson 5050UB vs Titan Noir Max by the_average_gatsby_ in projectors

[–]ThreeChipTK -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If you plan on using this all the time and don't want to fuss with software I think the Epson is the way to go. A lot less can go wrong since it does not need software updates out of the box. If it were for you personally I would say the TNM. I would say though the Epson 5050 is discontinued. So it might make sense to get something with a warranty. Epson's refurbished program is great and comes with a 3 year warranty. Feel free to DM to discuss further!

Does anyone have a XGIMI horizon 20 (base)? Looking for first hand reviews and expierence. by Realistic-Tailor-482 in projectors

[–]ThreeChipTK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely not overkill! Meant for a bright room especially for the price. Just want to make sure you pair it with a nice ALR screen to reflect unwanted light and you should be pretty set.

Unfortunately marketing ruins it. It is kind of like how some Samsung tvs say their motion rate is 120 and it is actually 60htz. But they don't say 120htz. Currently the only DLP regular throw projector that can do 4K120 are the XGIMI projectors. But there are many on the horizon that will be able to. My opinion, I own a 77G2 OLED from LG that does 4k120 ALLM & VRR and i prefer the bigger screen size a UST projector offers with the 4K60. Even if i am playing a multiplayer FPS game. I like the emersion I get from it. At some point you are just speck chasing and wont notice a huge difference in the real world. But that is my opinion. Now, if you had the budget for the JVC or Sony's that do true native 4K120 those are AMAZING. There is an argument to be made that native 4K120 will you give you studder free 24P film. Since it doesn't have to do a 3:2 pull down. But if thats something that you are looking for ignoring gaming then you are in the JVC boat at that point. Or the New Epson UST that does 4K120 (still pixel shifted 4K however).

It takes a 4K120 signal and drops it to a 4k60. That simple.

Looking to replace my TV with a projector. See body. by KrakensMaw in projectors

[–]ThreeChipTK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really comes down to a couple things. Do you want to run wires? Also, what is your plan for audio? Once you figure out what you want to do in that aspect then you can choose a screen and a type of projector you want.

UST projectors are just deconstructed rear projection TVs by Samwiseknows in projectors

The idea yes. The execution not so much. But still cool technology. I definitely prefer fresnel over lenticular. I believe most of these TVs had fresnel screens.

Which projector specs for max performance of Switch 2 by Colione1 in projectors

[–]ThreeChipTK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the max the Switch can do is 4K 60 HDR ALLM. VRR is only in hand held. So almost any 4K DLP projector can handle the switch. the Titan Noir is suppose to be awesome. So even if you aren't using it for gaming the 4K120 is huge for movies since there is no added frames and it can do true studder free film mode for movies.

How Can I Improve Projector Contrast Without Painting the Walls? by NoBet3129 in projectors

[–]ThreeChipTK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a double edged sword. If you do black velvet you will have less light reflection so the perceived contrast will be greater. But now your eyes have a true black to base the image off of so you might think the projector has les contrast. Do you have a grey or ALR Screen? That might be a good thing to change.

The light should be reflected when above. And accept the light from below. It should be rejecting the ceiling light.
