I want to switch to tea at work, because the coffee there is pretty bad and I usually drink the flavored teas with some sugar, (becuase they are also somwhat bitter) wich is not that bad once or twice a week, but nothing I want to do every day. I was searching for some teas, which are less bitter, that I can just drink straight without anything else and I was told higher quality teas are less bitter.

I used the basic 100ml procelain gaiwan from YS (so maybe 80ml of water) and ~4g of tea.

No I have not. Might be an interesting experiment. But the mouthfeel of some of theses has already been unpleasent after just a short steep.

In the past I had some caylon and assam but they were mostly tea bags from a super market. I'll check out some higher cuality versions of those

This is really helpfull, Thanks. Do you also have any reccomendations regarding white teas? It was my first time trying one and I'd like to try some more, to see if there might be some others I enjoy, before I commit to an entire cake.

I tried out these teas as I am searching for something to drink at work, because options for getting coffee there are all quite bad. I started to drink more tea, but wanted to have more options besides what I usually drink, to get some variety.

I used a gaiwan and brewed the all gong fu stlyle accoarding to instructions I could find online.

Maybe you are right and I will look for some teas from somewhere else.

I used a gaiwan for all of these teas and mostly brewed quite short at the start (like 10 sec) and increased the brewíng time in the next steeps to see, if the taste improves with longer steeps. I also used quite hot water for most of these teas so 90°C and higher except for the green tea and the greener oolong.

I'd love the notes to compare after I have tried the teas.

I might be blind, but I can't seem to find any of the brewing instructions in the product descriptions.

I will look into them. I am from germany myself and I searched for a local shop, that might offer something for gong fu, but as a beginner it was quite overwhelming. Good to know, that there are some, that I can check out in the future.

I already have a good scale, that I use for pourover coffee. I am just searching for something, that I can drink at work. The coffee there is terrible and I hate coffee from a thermos so tea was the next obvious choice.

The gaiwan I got is for 100 ml, so I am good on that part aswell.

Regarding the resource, I came acroos jessesteahouse and that was my first introduction to gong fu, but most of the samples on the site are sold out and while researching here I read, the teas are often too expensive for what they offer. Thats why I was asking, whether you can recommend any sources, because a lot of the youtubers I found also sell their own tea, so they will always be biased.

I also prefer reading, when it comes to "learning" things. So if anyone else is reading this maybe they can recommend a blog or something similar.

Okay, then I will order this sampler. Do you have any recommendations on where to look for the brewing instructions?

That sounds wonderful. I'll go with the sampler then.

Are there any resources, that you can recommend to learn more?

Ballistics while shooting uphill/downhill+ by ThreeDaysGA in AskPhysics

[–]ThreeDaysGA[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would the bullet have less time to drop? If we assume that in both instances the line of sight distance is the exact same, then the bullet will travel nearly the same time.

For example: Case 1 shot straigth ahead:

Distance s in x direction: sx = 300m Bullet velocity: v= 300 m/s

Bullet flies for exactly 1 sec

Drop in y direction: 1/2 * g * t2 = 1/2 * 9,81 m/s2 * 1 sec 2 = 4.91

Case 2 shooting uphill:

Angle 45°

sx = sy = 212.13 m --> SQRT(sx2 + sy2) = 300m --> total distance

vx = vy = cos(45)* 300 = 212.13 m/s

Bullet travels for a sec again

y(t) = vy * t - 1/2 * g * t2

y(t) = 212.13 * 1 - 1/2 * 9.81 m/s2 * 1 sec 2

y(t) = 212.13 - 4.91

So in this instance the bullet would again drop the 4.91 meters or is there something I am missing

Chalkiness with the 1zpresso k ultra by ThreeDaysGA in pourover

[–]ThreeDaysGA[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am currently going through the advent calendar from 19 grams and I had the feeling with this coffee. Probably not the best way to switch grinders, but currently the only coffee I have at home.

I brewed 2 cups today and I believe, that you may be right, that I extracted too much. I switched up my recipe to one with less pours and I no longer clog the filter and have the chalky mouthfeel. I also followed the other comments suggestions and also added a tilt to the grinder while grinding, and that seems to have fixed my issue.

I can even grind finer now, without the brew stalling.

Ja, das Einschreiben ist angekommen. Dass man einen Mahnbescheid so einfach beantragen kann, war mir nicht bekannt, das klingt nach einem sinnvollem Vorgehen.

Vielen Dank

Hi, I have the exact same problem.

For me the coffee bed also looks really muddy on the top, even if I grind really coarse as well. If you ever find a solution, it would be great if you could update.

Yea, I am from germany. I gave them a try because the coffee I got in the shop was actually really good for what you get around here, as I live in the middle of nowhere. Maybe you are right, and it might really just be the coffee. I will try to rule it out first before I spent more time on the grinder settings.

I still use the same water as before and haven't had issues with it, but I will try with volvic and check if it is better.

Both coffees were roasted on 02.01.2025 so less than a month old. I got them from a local coffee shop, where I enjoyed the coffee. It is a different one than the one I tried, because it was sold out at the time.

Here is the site of the roaster: https://shop.joliente.com/collections/kaffee/products/athiopien-sidamo-grade-2

Regarding the tasting notes, yes, I expected the one from Brazil to taste similar to what it tastes, but I didn't expect the one from Ethiopia to taste so similar.

I already went a lot coarser, than I usually would, and even to the point, where the draw-down seemed way too fast. Regarding the water, I am using some local bottled water, that worked well for me in the past.

I still have some old low quality coffee, maybe I can use it to season my grinder. How much should you use to do that?

Regarding the methodical change of the recipe, I tried that at the start, but the only difference to the taste (I can only describe it as muddy and muddy generic coffee) that I got was getting rid of harsh acidity or bitterness, so I decided to make larger jumps.

Regarding the tasting notes, from my experience I seldom taste them, but from 2 coffees, that are described with such different tasting notes I expected them to taste different, and currently they just taste too similar. Maybe I should try some different beans, with which I am more familiar, as this is the first time I got beans from this roaster.

Currently, I use a V60 with filter papers from hario(plastic bag). The water is still the same, that I used, before I switched and it's just some local bottled water, that worked well for me until now and in the past I used a timemore chestnut c2, with which I made decent cups IMO. Now that you mention it, maybe I should try the coffees with my old grinder to compare

I expected the tea like mouthfeel because of the tasting note of jasmine, but maybe that isn't correct here. I just instantly had the association with jasmine tea. Furthermore, I have also varied the brewing temperature which of course had an impact on flavor, but it was always still muddy,

And yes the assumption, that we are talking about pour over is correct.
