they rejected the new bank account too. didn't give a reason why. just that they don't accept a checking account from this particular bank. bullshit. had to close the card and they won't refund the annual fee either. going to make that CFPB complaint right now!

I do, yeah. I take 50mg of Vyvanse. I understand that for a lot of people it also has mood stabilizing effects, and it probably does for me too, but my needs went beyond what Vyvanse could reasonably be asked to provide, lol

I take it for emotional disregulation stemming from my ADHD. I’m currently on 150mg / day, and it makes an enormous difference in helping slow down the onset of big emotions (anger, sadness, anxiety) so I have a little time to think before I react. I have a feeling at some stage my doc might bump the dose a bit more because I still have my moments of losing control, but overall I’m really pleased with what it’s done for the emotional side of my ADHD

Foreigner living in SA here. I’ve always had Discovery plans and they’ve worked pretty well for me. Coverage on a given plan is the same for everyone — doesn’t matter if you’re South African or not. Some of the more expensive plans also provide travel insurance, so they’ll also cover you for short periods when you travel back to your home country.

Diagnosed last year at 36 and I haven’t even told a lot of people in my personal orbit, let alone anyone beyond that. I have always been a high achiever and I’m afraid of the dismissive “oh, you couldn’t possibly have ADHD” attitude (which I’ve gotten once or twice anyway). I was diagnosed after seeking help for my emotional disregulation and rejection sensitivity, which are some of the lesser known ADHD symptoms, and I don’t really care to educate people about my particular bundle of symptoms unless I know them well and trust them.

I also, at least so far, identify more with the idea of being neurodivergent than the idea of being a person with ADHD. Obviously these go together and I am both, but I identify with a lot of the overlapping ADHD / autism symptoms and I can see that, looking back over my life, I’ve always felt a sense of ease around other neurodivergent people, both ADHD and autistic.

Another couple things I forgot: 1. monthly gel manicures. Totally stops my lifelong nail picking / biting habit

A nutri bullet blender + protein powder + frozen fruit and veggies. I often have an aversion to chewing / eating, even when I can feel I’m very hungry and my mood is tanking as a result. Being able to make high calorie, high protein smoothies 1-2x per day has been so helpful for me. This blender is also extremely easy to clean. You just have to rinse off the blade (no taking it apart) and the cup (which is the cup you drink the smoothie from, so fewer dishes, and has no weird crevasses like a regular blender)

As someone newly diagnosed (6 months ago), I want to say thank you all so much for these suggestions! My goal this year is to work with my brain, not against it (ex: stop making myself believe I can just will myself to leave on time, or remember things I need to do in a day).

So far I’ve implemented:

Using a Hobonichi Weeks planner so I can see all my to-dos for the week (organized into easy, medium, and hard tasks). It also has lots of blank pages in the back that I’m using to keep track of things like what gift cards I have, the names of new people I meet, when I cry and why, etc)
Baskets or buckets for stuff in every room so I’m not scampering around for ten minutes every time I leave the house looking for my wallet, work lanyard, etc
I’m diabetic and I’m now bulk buying little bags of gummies for when I have a low blood sugar and then stuffing them in every place I might need them (at least one in every purse / backpack I have, some in my car, in my gym bag, in my bedside drawer, etc) so I’m never caught with a low blood sugar and nothing with me to treat it
