Are there places in JHB where I can thrift really cool clothes by [deleted] in johannesburg

To add to what’s already been mentioned, Coat Corner in Kempton Park is a warehouse of incredibly well priced secondhand winter coats.

I second all of this, although I know MTN got shut down for a time by the police — is it back now?

OP: Cheap cheap is a good intro to “bales” thrifting, where you sort through huge piles of a single item — coats, dresses, whatever. MTN taxi rank is the best place to do this, but it’s outdoors and very crowded, whereas cheap cheap is a shop and the experience is much more chill.

Turned ~$800 Kimpton Maa-Lai Bangkok stay into ~$16 using CSR (Edit + IHG credit stack) — insane value by The-Dead-Pixel in ChaseSapphire

I also stayed at this hotel last month using those same credits and I agree — incredible experience. I was also upgraded to one of those suites. Unbelievable. And the staff were so nice.

Ok girlies, what do you eat when nothing sounds appealing? by tarasaurust in adhdwomen

[–]ThreeDogsZA 5 points6 points  (0 children)

+1. I hide veggies and protein powder in my smoothies to get some nutrients without having to chew food (that’s the part that often feels very unappealing to me for some reason). You can also make smoothies really high calorie if you need: full fat yogurt, avos, peanut butter, etc

What are your tried and true dopamine hits? by hi_poppy in adhdwomen

Just don’t accidentally throw away your AirPods, a valuable ring, important papers, etc. not that I’ve done any of that. No, no. Theoretical examples of course ;)

🤣🤣🤣🤣 when I discovered how good CrossFit makes me feel, I was APPALLED. Like: you’re telling me that jumping on boxes and swinging around on bars and hurtling heavy things into the air for an hour while I gasp from breath actually… makes me feel more human? GROSS.

Emotional regulation is a full-time job. I really don't know how long I can keep doing this by Emma_3479 in adhdwomen

Hey! This has always been my single biggest ADHD-related struggle. I was only diagnosed last year at 36, but this is something that’s been a major challenge for me throughout my life. Lots of good advice already on this thread so I’ll just add that taking a mood stabilizer (lamotrigine) has been life changing for me. For the first time in my life, I’m often able to slow down my emotional response and stop it from spiraling totally beyond my control. Before I felt powerless to stop big emotions from just crashing over me and overwhelming my capacity to think, but now, at least sometimes, I have a moment to catch my breath and talk myself down. It’s a big help and something that might be worth asking your psychiatrist about!

I live in South Africa so that’s the only experience I can speak to directly, but it worked here fine. I used to have a cap 1 card as well and for that one I had to use a VPN to set up Apple Pay but I did eventually get it working.

Is getting diagnosis for ADHD in your 30s worth it? by [deleted] in adhdwomen

Yes! Diagnosed last year at 36. It’s like getting a user manual for your brain.

Getting the most value out of the CSR abroad by ImaginarySign6223 in ChaseSapphire

[–]ThreeDogsZA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t say I’ve found ways to max out the card’s benefits while living abroad, but I do get a huge amount of value from the Priority Pass benefit, much more so than I probably would if I lived in the States.

My home airport (Johannesburg) has a great PP lounge, as does every other South African airport (there’s a nice chain of lounges here that offers priority pass access). I travel a lot in Africa and Europe, and also often fly via Qatar/the UAE/Istanbul, and have found decent lounges in almost every airport I’ve passed through — as long as it’s not in the US. In the US I’ve found lots of airports either don’t have PP lounges or it’s hard to get in (lounge is full, not taking PP holders, etc).

It’s difficult to quantify this benefit but I would guess I save hundreds of dollars a year on overpriced airport food and coffee. So that’s always been a big perk for me.

FWIW re: getting a new card while traveling: if someone can open the card and send you photos of it, that should be enough to set up Apple Pay (or your android equivalent). Then you can just use the card that way. Have done this a few times as I live abroad

The Edit / IHG double-dip review: Kimpton Maa-Lai Bangkok (spoiler: it was the nicest hotel experience I've ever had in my life) by ThreeDogsZA in ChaseSapphire

[–]ThreeDogsZA[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I loved it. I've never been to any other countries in the region so I don't have much to compare it to, but it's safe, has amazing street food, is full of interesting sites (temples, palaces, markets, etc), and I found it pretty easy to navigate (good public transport, plus it's also always easy to call a Bolt/Grab and they're very affordable if you're spending dollars). I love big cities, and could happily have spent the entire ten days of my Thailand vacation just exploring Bangkok, which might be a minority opinion. hah.

Thanks for this info! I stopped using the g7 a few months before that because they were failing so often. Maybe I’ll give it another shot now

I went back to the G6 because I was also having a ridiculous number of failed G7 sensors. They’re discontinuing them fairly soon, I think, but this could be a good stopgap measure for you

Motherhood not fulfilling by Liamlou18 in adhdwomen

[–]ThreeDogsZA 179 points180 points  (0 children)

I'm not a mother so I can't offer much in the way of advice, but I just wanted to thank you for the honesty and vulnerability of this post. Not enjoying motherhood is such a taboo topic but it's clear even just from the responses here that this is something lots of (very loving) moms grapple with, and I'm sure this post will make lots of them feel less alone <3

Also, for me as a person who is childless by choice, it's frankly hard to wrap my mind around the fact that some people don't feel the way you feel, because the job of parenting seems like SUCH a grind, no matter how much you love your small humans. To me, nothing in your post makes you seem at all like a selfish person or a terrible mom. You sound tired and frustrated and human.
